MIAMI — President Trump told the conservatives currently withholding support from House leader Kevin McCarthy to stand down in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News.
“I like him,” Trump said of McCarthy, before teeing off on those working against him including Matt Gaetz, Andy Biggs, Matt Rosendale, Bob Good, and Ralph Norman. Trump warned that there could be serious consequences if McCarthy does not get the gavel and it would make Washington worse for conservatives.
“I think it’s a very dangerous game that’s being played,” Trump said. “It’s a very dangerous game. Some bad things could happen. Look, we had Boehner and he was a strange person but we ended up with Paul Ryan who was ten times worse. Paul Ryan was an incompetent speaker. I think he goes down as the worst speaker in history. We took out Boehner—and a group of people, some of whom are the same, and they’re very good friends of mine. All those people are very good friends of mine.”
Chess degrees are piling up.
Thank you for the clarification :)
Ryan was actually popular with the TEA party at one time. He came to town promising to end entitlements - by sending them to the states. And he was the first guy to roundly school and embarrass new King Barry - on LIVE TV, the health-care summit. Ryan' star hit its apex that day.
Ryan always suffered from BigPlanItis. His plans were too involved and relied on good things happening across multiple Congress sessions. I believe he meant well initially. He soured quickly as made friends on the Hill and learned to trade compromises with them.
Ryan was already well experienced creating awful, multi part plans before he did the same with TrumpRyanCare. Basically, the plan was for us all to take legislative poison in year one, count on some admin level things for a time, then next Congress would pass the antidote. Trump liked it. HFC wisely did not.
What’s the serious alternative to McCarthy? If we can get someone more principled and firm than McCarthy, I’m all for it, but who is that? Biggs has no support outside from his handful of friends. If the outcome for all this is paralysis, with Schiff, Omar and Swalwell keeping their committee positions and the J6 committee continuing to run amok, then everyone opposing McCarthy can take credit for turning the only victory of the 2022 election into another loss.
President Trump needs some real help in the HR dept. He, unfortunately, has always had a habit of selecting losers for important positions.
Cool. We’ll hold off on craven capitulation until March. That is, if history is any guide on these year end three-monthers
I agree with you completely. I have nothing by contempt for McCarthy, but we’re going to have to settle for McDaniel’s scalp. If not him, who’s going to get the 218 to be elected? Once again we’re goi g to get stuck with second best
for pity sakes, THINK!
The majority is paper thin. This is not the time to quibble in an impossible quest, and lose the SOTH.
For pity sakes, THINK!
SHeesh!
Trump leads. That’s what he’s doing again. Incidentally, who does DeSantis support for Speaker? I’ve seen this crap before by Obama. He takes no position and allows everyone to put on him the position he should have. Trump is putting his neck on the line for the country.
Gosh, there are so many explanations I can hardly decide which one is correct!
I wouldn’t worry too much, quibblers here really will not sway the house vote one way or the other.
FDT, to the tune of FJB.
Ryan did push through the tax plan over every Democrats’ opposition. That was a big deal.
President Trump is setting himself up to get egged. McCarthy is a DC establishment puke to bone and will stab Trump and the American people in the back when and how the deep state tells him to.
“Thank you for the clarification :)”
Absolutely - I realized that it could easily be viewed as you saw it once you responded!
As far as I know, Andy Biggs is the only one running against McCarthy.
Let me be clear, I LOVE ANDY.
He is strong, dependable and has the exact things I want in a Congressman.
BUT, Andy has the appearance of a soft, likable guy who goes along to get along..
Andy is a GREAT Congressman, But he is NOT a Leader.
He speaks hesitantly, stutters at times and cannot be counted on to influence others to follow him.
But, I still love him, NOT AS THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE.
McCarthy always had this locked.
If not McCarthy, name names or STFU.
Dumb call, Mr. President. No one respects Kevin McCarthy. He’s weak... almost as bad as the other twit, Paul Ryan.
