The Senate on Thursday passed the annual defense authorization bill, sending the $858 billion measure to President Biden’s desk for signature just before the year-end deadline.
The measure, formally known as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), passed with an overwhelming bipartisan majority, 83-11.
It provides $45 billion more for defense than called for in Biden’s budget, including allocating $817 billion to the Department of Defense and $30 billion to the Department of Energy.
Thursday’s vote caps weeks of wrangling over floor timing and controversial policy changes, such as language demanded by conservative Republicans to end the military’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, which has been in place since August of 2021.

These are wartime numbers...and yet we are not at war. Pure treason.
What’d they sneak into the bill?
They still need an appropriations bill or ram it into the omnibus.
My family’s health insurance in the SickCare scam supported by both parties just went up 29% and that’s less than many.
I need money to pay for my family more than Big War and the Pentagon.
From the sneer-jeer modifier "controversial," I guess the anti troop-killer measure the sHill objected to was approved.
Am I reading this right?
what percentage of this bill is pork???
This would be a good thing if it were wisely spent.
But much of it will be spent for counter-productive things like transgender recruitment and spying on normal Americans.
Was the vax mandate removed?
I am quite pro military, but I am also a fiscal conservative. The defense budget is entirely too large and it includes tons of garbage. Garbage to me is stuff that doesn’t kills and break things efficiently, effectively, and economically or supports that function. Get rid of the garbage and cut it the budget by at least 50%.
Hey 100 billion to Ukraine and 55 billion to Africa
Now, get back to work.
I was worried that Trannies wouldn’t get tax payer funded HRT , good thing they tossed in an extra 45 billion into the defense budget
I’d like to say they’re trying to sneak some gin control into this one. Gun’s and Gadgets, or Langley Outdoor Academy might have some more on this one, but they e been quiet about NDAA stuff the past couple of days.
That’s the plan.
This is blatant theft of taxpayer money by both sides.
Dems are trying to break the Country and destroy the dollar so China can get control of the World’s Reserve Currency.
Another 10% for “The Big Guy”.
So by your post, maybe you can answer a question I had earlier. I understand you have to have an authorization bill followed by appropriate bills. This article calls this a defense authorization, so as you say, it must have an appropriation bill to follow. Next year congress, with. GOP House will have control of that appropriation, so they can choose not to appropriate. But the proposed omnibus disaster confuses me. How is that an appropriation mechanism?
President Eisenhower warned us about this. And he was in the military. You're right we should reduce the military by 50%. Really we need the navy. Army and Marine Corps should be mostly reserves which we can call to active duty quickly.
They are doing everything possible before the seating of the new house, not that that will stop them the GOP are already talking about caving, scumbags we trusted
