Pity the Left cannot demarxise.
I believe it has beeen longstanding law that Puerto Rico’s future is in its own hands already. They have had votes before, and chosen the status quo. Not sure what this new “law” is about.
“Independence with free association” is... what they have now? Or are the Democrats trying to tell 3 million Americans that they shouldn’t have citizenship?
We should cut them loose. We don’t want that welfare country sucking America’s teat any longer. And as a colonial territory, we get nothing from them except people with bad attitudes and their bills. They should never be a state.
Cut em adrift.
WHO WILL STEAL THE ELECTION IN PUERTO RICO? I can take ONE guess.
The US took possession of four Spanish colonies at the end of the Spanish-American War: The Philippines, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
We decolonized the Philippines and Cuba by granting them independence. We should decolonize Puerto Rico by doing the same which will cut them off from the special tax treatment the Puerto Ricans and companies in Puerto Rico receive under the tax code.
If they become a state, they have to pay federal income taxes, right? Guess that might give a few people pause, but most are on federal welfare of some type or another so I bet a vote will fail.
How about ask Americans if we want to simply grant Puerto Rico independence, ship all Puerto Ricans home, without US citizenship, wash our hands of this former Spanish colony. A simple cost-benefit calculation would favor giving them independence.
This, along with a multitude of other things, was predicted to be attempted by the Democrats on the way out. Remember, we’re still waiting for the referrals for prosecution from the fake J6 committee.
I still have money on the Senate eliminating the filibuster. . .
Give PR one choice, Bye!
If it becomes independent the Chinese will establish a naval base and an air force base there within months. And if they declare independence it should be understood that their US citizenship disappears on “independence” day.
Let’s hold the referendum after the next big hurricane hits.
This morning I decolon-ized something a lot like Puerto Rico.
This is fluffy window-dressing. As long as they have an option to stay with the US, they will - otherwise they’d have to actually pay the GINORMOUS debt that island is floating on. They’ll NEVER option to be independent, as they’d default immediately.
Not a bad idea if it would allow ALL states and U.S. territories to hold a binding referendum on whether to remain / become a state or gain independence.
How much insanity can be packed into a single month?
Didn’t they already have a referendum, and the result was that they wanted to stay a colony?
I vote for independence. Let them take care of their own issues that they have made for and from themselves.
If they vote for independence then most of the people on that island, that are living off of Uncle Sam, will lose those checks. That ain’t happening. Especially after the hurricane.
