The US took possession of four Spanish colonies at the end of the Spanish-American War: The Philippines, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
We decolonized the Philippines and Cuba by granting them independence. We should decolonize Puerto Rico by doing the same which will cut them off from the special tax treatment the Puerto Ricans and companies in Puerto Rico receive under the tax code.
Cuba was decolonized and went commie. Philippines was decolonized and went autocratic. Guam tipped over. Puerto Rico is all we have left of San Juan Hill, and it has become the swamp on steroids.
I seem to remember that they’ve always voted not to be a state because of the tax problem. If they became a US state they would be subject to federal income taxes which they aren’t now. Is that correct.?
