Republican support for Trump 2024 run collapsing, poll shows
New York Post ^ | December 13, 2022 | Mark Moore

GOP backing for former President Donald Trump’s third consecutive White House bid has fallen apart over the past several months, with most Republican voters saying they’d prefer another candidate to carry on his policies in 2024, according to a poll released Tuesday.

While 31% of Republican and Republican-leaning independents want Trump, 76, to run again in two years, 61% say they would rather have another GOP standard-bearer, the USA Today/Suffolk University survey found.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, 44, is their preferred choice.

DeSantis, who cruised to re-election Nov. 8, leads Trump by 23 percentage points — 56% to 33% — in a head-to-head primary matchup, the poll shows.

Nearly two-thirds of Republican and GOP-leaning voters (65%) say the governor should run for the White House in 2024, with just 24% saying he shouldn’t.

“Republicans and conservative independents increasingly want Trumpism without Trump,” David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, told USA Today.

Trump, who is facing state and federal investigations over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and for keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort, has seen enthusiasm among Republicans for a third White House try plummet in recent months, falling from 60% support in July to 56% in October to 47% now.

The former president has also seen his favorability rating fall among the Republican faithful — skidding from 75% in October to 64% in December.

In a hypothetical 2024 matchup, Trump lags behind President Biden by 47% to 40%, the poll found.

But DeSantis tops Biden 47% to 43% in a hypothetical 2024 election matchup.

The survey also showed that Biden’s approval rating has improved slightly, climbing a point to 46% from October, while his unfavorable rating fell a point to 50%.

The Swamp wants to pick the next candidate, Trump is too dangerous.

Don’t assume Trump supporters are automatically going to support desantis. They won’t.

No, I'm sure some will sit home and pout. Others will try to hobble DeSantis' campaign, as some are already trying to do here on Free Republic.

But hopefully these numbers will be more than made up by new and return voters.

Kari Lake lost nothing. She’s the best candidate the Republicans have had in Arizona in decades. Squish Ducey got in on Jan Brewer’s coattails and the fact that he was a successful businessman with his Coldstone Creamery franchise operation.

DeSantis barely won his first election, and his second election means that he and his people effectively stamped out the Rat cheat machine in Florida, which IS a miracle considering it’s been there since Reconstruction.

Trump is the legitimate President NOW. The individual purportedly in that office now is neither legitimately elected now even in control.

As for Georgia, it’s really obvious that the only way you win there is to be part of the cheat machine.

As for Herschel Walker, he was outspent 3:1 to lose by a point and half, if that’s even legitimate. The money Warnock got came from strawman “donors” as has been amply demonstrated here.

Answer: Donald Trump will win his THIRD election to the office of President of the United States. While the Biden family is fighting massive criminal influence peddling, bribery and money laundering charges.

There are too many ‘conservatives’ who would prefer Trump run as an independent. They are far more in favor of destroying the GOP than they are of winning elections.

Dangerous to who?

Not Democrats. Trump has successfully been getting Democrats elected since 2018!

Any candidate who supports foreign military interventions or bad trade deals like TPP will not be supported by the majority of conservative voters.

This is why Desantis is unelectable.

So if you believe that Trump is the legitimate president and he was robbed through fraudulent elections, I'll ask again, what three states does he flip in 2024?

Or will we be hearing the same excuses leading up to '28? "Trump is still the legitimate president! WE WUZ ROBBED!!!"

> Trump’s biggest problem is that the middle of the road Republicans and Independents HATE him. <

I don’t know if I’d exactly use the word “hate” there, but yes, you make an excellent point. Trump is a smart guy. But for some reason he never accepted that it’s not a level playing field. And so he kept on saying things that the media could twist into something bad.

It bothers me that Trump has not made any adjustments here. He keeps on saying reckless things. It’s pushing me away. And as you noticed, it’s also pushing away many moderate Republicans.

I strongly believe that the Gestapo (FBI, CIA, DOJ, etc.) portion of the Deep State will not allow Trump to be President again, despite what the voters say. Polls indicating he is falling out of favor is the easy way for them to avoid more drastic measures.

>> So a poll of “republican leaning independents” is our standard now? Just keep playing the gaslighting game folks <<

No, it’s a poll of Republicans including Republican-leaning independents. Or you’d rather that the Conservative Party, Independence Party (you know... Trump’s party in 2000?), the Libertarian Party, etc., be excluded, even though they’ll vote in the Republican primaries in most states, even most with “closed” primaries? (Conservative Party members can vote in 43 states, for instance; only 7 of 32 “closed” states prohibit independents.)

"When it comes to politics, well people lust for change."

If that were true, 95% of the incumbents this mid term would not have been reelected.

Don’t worry, bubba, he’ll figure that one out.

You start with a conclusion - “He’s poison in GA” - which isn’t true. With tighter election laws and maybe suitcases full of cash to Brian Kemp’s mother-in-law, should be no problem.

As for the other states you imply but don’t name, you tell us how ANY Republican “wins” there. PA? You think Philly is an honest election counting city? Hilarious.

Has to be stopped with police action, and that’s the only way ANY “Republican” wins in 2024.

The guy is 76!!!!!! We have 10 years at most left.
I think his parents died in their 80’s.

The real question to me is what is the mental capacity as
age increases. I prefer someone in their mid 60s at most
for two terms.
