Can red states overcome their hatred of California and embrace electric cars?
The Los Angeles Times via MSN ^ | December 12, 2022 | by Noah Bierman

This industrial city an hour north of Indianapolis isn't as famous as Detroit, but it has become an unlikely battleground in the war over electric cars.

Almost everyone you meet here either works in a factory, is retired from one or has a relative in a plant that makes parts for gasoline-powered cars — which have ruled Kokomo for nearly 130 years.

Yet change is coming. Bulldozers are clearing Kokomo’s cornfields to build a $2.5-billion government-subsidized electric vehicle battery factory, with the aim of retaining jobs tied to auto production at a time California is leading the nation in phasing out gas-powered engines.

Environmentalists, along with industry and government leaders, see a transformation afoot after decades of false starts. They have acknowledged, however, that they can’t complete the shift if electric cars are viewed as something only for rich liberals in California and New York. They need everyone.

The uneasy reception to EVs in Indiana — in a national climate that includes Republican lawsuits against California's new emissions rules and televised warnings that they represent an attack on freedom — suggests that the country remains divided over embracing a technology that environmentalists say is essential to combating climate change.

Indiana can feel like a tough place to own an electric car.

From an Upstate NY enemefia outlet...

https://www.weny.com/story/47920313/new-ev-charging-stations-coming-to-areas-of-new-york-including-bath

“...The governor’s office says that the new chargers can charge most of the battery capacity in any make or model of E-V in as little as 20 minutes.:

And these, supposedly, will be high speed charging sites.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

This country is trying to get folks to buy their first EV.

I’d like to know how many have already worn one of those out and are going to buy ANOTHER?

My hubby is pretty handy at repairing the basic older vehicles, but not so much the new computerized ones.

Me, too!

I can't even FIND the spark plugs on my 2020Grand Cherokee!

The government is not in the business of deciding which option is better and choosing “winners”.

Oh?

It sure looks that way from where I stand!

Whisper quiet, no heat signature and they can export energy

BULL!

Energy is being dissipated and that is HEAT!

My mother recently passed away, and we were going to replace the battery in her vehicle since it hadn't been driven in a while. Low and behold! We found you couldn't simply raise the hood, remove the battery and install a new one. No. You had to jack up the car, remove the right front tire, unscrew a few bolts, and remove a panel, and then you could remove and replace the battery. It was an afternoon project rather than the work of 20 minutes.

My relative has one of the the highest security level clearances in the country and is vp, advance products for one of the top defense contractors in the country.
There are numerous other things that make ev military vehicles more favorable in testing according to him but he would never disclose them.
Why is every military in every country movings towards EV’s? Why is every military defense contractor in the entire world moving towards EV’s? China surely is. Are they woke? I don’t think so. Why is that? To be at a disadvantage?

To answer your question I think an electric motor gives off way less heat tha a diesel and no exhaust fumes and what heat comes off can be covered up but I am not knowledgable enough, not even close to answer your question.

Ford Tells Electric Truck Owners to Forgo Using the Heater in Winter if They Want Extended Battery Life. Can you imagine paying $60K for a truck, and the manufacturer tells you not to use the heater in the winter?

What you described is basically the setup used on race cars where parameters are telemetered to the pits for analysis basically in real time.

I built 2 generations of the monitoring system. First gen was described in papers I presented to IEEE/ASME in Pueblo, CO in 2005. A related paper focused on the CANOpen technology I used was presented at the 10th International CAN Conference in Rome in 2005. By the time the concept was ready in the field, I had 46 vendors building the components. We we ready to roll live on the tracks when Obama trashed it. Some of the project components remain in my basement. The PC104 CPU cards were right at end of life due to a change in the Linux kernel that added in instruction missing in the SOC IP onboard that implemented the CPU.

The EV and Solar/Wind Turbine Movements are a gross fleecing of taxpayers' pockets to make well connected DEM's friends very rich. These markets will collapse on themselves leaving Electrical Utility Customers to pay far higher rates for electricity. They will cause taxpayers as well to bail out the collapsed automakers, Solar Panel corps, and wind turbines when they finally realize that these forms of power generation cannot now nor ever meet our nation's energy demand. As well we will have to bail out our Power grid because Idiot Lawyers in DC are shutting reliable down.

People are not aware of what it takes to keep commercial buildings and health care facilities operational. Not to mention a server farm. It takes vast amounts of electricity to power their cooling systems. So, who will have their needs met first the essential infrastructure or Yuppie Green Earth's EV?

My region which is powered by TVA is fixing to shut down all coal fired steam plants. Replacing many with Solar Panel Farms. If they covered every surface sq ft of where the coal fire d stem plant stood it will generate less than 20% off the power a coal fired steam plant does.

What really irks me is in the past few decades TVA pour billions and billions to do mandated environmental upgrades of which yes some was needed, to turn right around and to appease the Green Earthers even more shut those upgraded plants down. Is a new nuclear power steam generation plant being built anywhere in the USA at this moment? I doubt more than a hand full.

The most efficient and reliable power generation plants Nuclear, Coal Fired, Gas Turbine, and last is Hydro-Electric. These can provide on demand power. Have you noticed that the under development mini reactors self-contained units are no longer being mentioned? I can think of 100 pitfalls of EV and the entire no carbon footprint lie. The EPA in it's arrogance in the past two decades has crippled what was once the most reliable engine which is the diesel engine. Thery have added senseless emissions crap and an electrical nightmare to them same as they did gasoline powered cars.

I see you have the very special Covid model Jeep Grand cherocky. Probably didn’t need spark plugs because who or what needs spark plugs in ICU.

definitely less heat, but the laws of physics are not fooled.

To propel an object to a certain speed requires some kind of energy source to convert chemical energy to mechanical.
And that is not 100% efficient, there will be heat generated.

Heck, you can feel your phone heating up as you use it a long time.
