A local LGBTQ+ event was met with protesters Saturday morning in Central Fresno.
Fresno's Drag Festival kicked off at 11:30 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
The ticketed event features well-known drag performers who do family-friendly numbers, including to Disney songs.
There's also a story time portion where the performers read age-appropriate books to the kids.
The event had pushback from dozens of people who protested outside of the church.
It also drew criticism from Fresno City Councilmember Garry Bredefeld on social media where he called the event "sickening and disgraceful."
"I just feel like instead of the love that they're trying to spread they're spreading more hate," organizer Isabel Ramos says. "That's not what my event is about. my event is about acceptance and love and creating a safe space for our children."
Bredefeld sees the event differently.
"They can try to dress it up. They can try to say it's not as bad as it used to be. It's not as sexualized as it used to be, we're selling tickets. it's a private event. The bottom line. It's wrong. Children don't need to be at drag shows," Bredefelds says.
The Fresno Police Department had extra resources on hand at the event.
Officials say they were there to preserve the peace and make sure everyone was abiding by the law.

One of my professors used to quote from Calvin, a warning to clergy, which I will paraphrase: “It would be better for you to fall and break your neck while climbing into the pulpit than to utter one word that would lead someone astray.”
Whenever I think the ELCA [or put almost any other mainline church here] can’t get any worse, I see a news story like this and realize I was wrong.

That’s the same name of the last church we went to as members. Scary. But not shocking. Mainstream churches are apostate.
Its community standards and the decadence and perversion of the parents or guardians of the children that makes these events possible. It wasn’t long ago that any adult who brought a child to such an event would lose custody. Today the event is held at an ostensibly Christian Church and the cops are there to protect the perverts.

The Sierra Pacific Synod of the ELCA prides itself on having elected the first openly gay “bishop” of the denomination; and more recently for having elected the first openly transgender “bishop”. That she/he/it had to resign under pressure for financial irregularities.

I don’t know much about Lutherans, but is there some higher church authority that could end this madness by a few rogue pastors? Or are they on board with this too?
