WNBA star Brittney Griner was released from a Russian prison Thursday as part of an exchange for notorious international arms dealer Viktor Bout, almost ten months after she was arrested on drug charges at a Moscow airport.
“She’s safe, she’s on a plane, she’s on her way home,” President Biden said in remarks from the White House, where he was joined by Griner’s wife, Cherelle. The two spoke with the Phoenix Mercury center over the phone, according to senior White House officials.
“She’s on her way home, after months of being unjustly detained in Russia, held under intolerable circumstances,” Biden said. “Brittney will soon be back in the arms of her loved ones and she should have been there all along. This is a day we’ve worked toward for a long time. We never stopped pushing for her release.”

I’m sure Brittney Griner will be all over TV soon, doing interview after interview, go chat with Whoopi Goldberg , and all of the personalities on MSNBC.
Maybe a book deal will come her way.
But I do wonder what she will say. Will she show any gratitude that the president of this evil racist country worked for her release? Or will she say America is racist and all of that?
I recall hearing someone once say , that the reason she was in Russia was to play pro basketball in Russia. And she was doing that because she just doesn’t make enough money in the WNBA. For various reasons the women players in the WNBA make just a small fraction of what the players in the NBA earn for playing basketball.

While a former American marine, falsely accused of espionage in Russia, continues his many months long incareration in a Russian prison.
While we can be happy for the family of the American who was released, it is difficult to square her release in exchange for a nortorious Russian international arms dealer while an American marine remains imprisined by Putin. If that exchange is what it takes to free an American basketball player, then what in the hell will it take to free the American marine, some American compromise on some US-Russian arms agreement???
