The midterm elections are officially over after Sen. Raphael Warnock defeated GOP nominee Herschel Walker by nearly 3 percentage points in Georgia’s Senate runoff. While Democrats celebrate their 51st seat in the upper chamber, Karl Rove, a veteran GOP strategist and Fox News contributor, says the Republican loss was avoidable.
"It shouldn't have been," Rove told Fox News Digital. "We had a terrible candidate who was well-meaning but plagued with a lot of scandal and was not particularly good on the campaign trail."
Republicans' loss in the Peach State boils down to poor candidate quality at the hands of President Donald Trump, according to Rove.
"It just shows again he’s a bad picker," Rove said.

Perhaps Rove can explain why the white GOP establishment candidates lost the two prior Senate races in GA. Were those Trump’s fault? How about when GA went for Jimmie Carter in 1976; also Trump?
Had the GA Republican Party developed candidates worth diddly, does Rove think Trump would have opposed them? If he wants to know what the problem is, he’d better invest in a mirror.
B I N G O.
The Republican ability to get itself in the back never ceases to amaze me.
When these Bush-bots stub their toe they shout “OUCH! DAMN YOU TRUUUUUUMP!”
“He” hasn’t been losing? Trump? He’s on an epic losing streak. 2018 midterms (lost 40 seats and lost the House), 2020 General, 2020 midterms (Oz, Walker, Masters, etc.). Trump cost the Republicans the Senate with his ridiculous endorsements.

DeSantis isn’t going to be the nominee. Trump won two senate seats in 2018, where he campaigned, which Reagan, Clinton, and Obama didn’t do in their first midterms. His losses in 2018 were also smaller than Clinton’s and Obama’s in their first Midterms. Mitch McConnell and voter fraud caused us to not pick up the Senate in 2022.
Nope it’s all about a crap candidate.
The PA Senate race was a crap fest.
You thought OZ could win you are a grade A fool.
OZ got every break a Republican can get running statewide in PA and lost… even here on FreeRepublic no one could sing the virtues of OZ because he had none.. all they could offer up was “at least he’s not Fetterman”, ignoring the stupidity of that argument, and the fact the other side could do the same thing and sell Fetterman as “at least he’s not OZ”.
And if that’s your race in PA, if you are a Republican running for statewide office you lose every single time…
46% D
39% R
15% I
If your race as a Republican is simply “I’m not the other guy” you are losing every single time.
To win as an R in PA you need to win every single R vote and win more than 2 out of 3 independent voters and/or peel off a lot of conservative/moderate Democrat voters… OZ was NEVER EVER going to be able to do that.
Lousy pathetic turd of a candidate.
OZ was such a pathetic candidate that even after being handed a miracle in his opponent having a stroke and not being able to campaign, and have more than $100,000,000 spent to sell him he still lost… you can’t ask for a more perfect situation as a Republican running for statewide office in PA and OZ still couldn’t get it done… because he was a crap candidate… period.
So you’re saying a Muslim from New Jersey who couldn’t even bring an endorsement from the person who made him famous (Blowprah) probably wasn’t a good candidate?
The Bush wing of the GOP is now Rat. Even Elon Musk was a Democrat up to 2020.
Correct. Rove is a phony. Tell us how great Murkowski is when she voted against Kavanaugh but confirmed Ketanji Jackson.
Trump deserves as much blame for Walker’s loss, as credit he would have taken for himself had Walker won.
Yeah I heard that line on a few shows. One went so far as Walker needs Gov. Kemp's help not Trump. Well I sent some money to Walker to help. I didn't see much help from Kemp or the McNothings. Mr. Walker put in a respectable loss against an incumbent Senator. It's not like he lost by 5 percentage points or more.
Why do people think so highly of Rove? He nearly lost 2000 for Shrub, another squeaker in 2004, and that’s it. Am I missing some other accomplishments? He’s a scumbag with no core beliefs, he needs to stop trying to be relevant and go retire.
“We got out clock cleaned” because Governor Kemp appointed Kelly Loeffler, the long haired blonde Watusi, as the replacement for Johnny Isakson. An incomprehensible pick that no real Georgian felt was actually a Georgian committed to conservative ideals. Some say he appointed her because she gave some money to the Georgia Republican Party. And that opened the door for Warnock.
If Kemp thinks he can come fresh out of the Governor’s office and run for Senate in 2026 or 2028 in Georgia he’s certainly not going to get my vote.
Nobody forced Walker to run, it was his decision and I don't recall anyone else in the GOP wanting the job.
Oh please.
Trump is trying to take credit for the safe bet races of people like Rubio, Grassley, and Rand Paul when he talks about his "93% winning endorsements!" but the real test is how did Trump's picks do in the swing states he lost in 2020 but will need to win in 2024 if he wants to have a shot?
Let's take a look at Trump's "hand-picked" endorsements (not the people running in safe seats who would've won no matter what):
Governors:
Lombardo: W
Lake: L
Mastriano: L
Michels: L
Dixon: L
Perdue: L
Senate:
Johnson: W
Walker: L
Masters: L
Oz: L
Laxalt: L
Bolduc: L
Secretaries of State:
Finchem: L
Karamo: L
Marchant: L
Hice: L
These are the critical swing states Trump needs to win and the voters in these swing states were not buying what Trump was selling.
These voters absolutely rejected Donald Trump and if people can't see that, I can't help.
I'll repeat it for clarity: Swing state voters absolutely rejected Donald Trump.
And these are going to be the same voters in '24.
And why was that? Because Trump is poison in Georgia. Trump knows it and Walker knew it and that's why both parties agreed that he'd stay away.
And if the leading GOP nominee for president can't win in Georgia, we've got BIG problems.
McConnell's two PACs spent $41 million on Oz, $45 million on Walker, $32 million on Laxalt, and another $14 million again on Walker for the runoff.
He didn't spend on Masters because Masters said he wouldn't support McConnell for Majority Leader. At that point, McConnell told Master's billionaire sugar daddy Peter Thiel, "He's your guy. You picked him. You fund his race."
Trump, meanwhile, sat on his fat wallet.
McConnell's Super PACs spent a combined $178 million.
Trump spent $8 million.
Karl Rove and the rest of the RINOs did all they could to undermine and in his case actively campaign against, MAGA Republicans.
They also once again sat back and allowed the corrupt Stacy Abrams election fraud machine to run rampant in Georgia....not to mention stealing an election in Arizona.
OZ was such a pathetic candidate
Nobody could be worse than Fetterman electing him was the biggest case of stupidity of voters ever displayed.
He’s a clueless loser pro criminal Soros may have had more than one son after all.
Wimps never make the first tackle, they pile on when the runner is already tackled.
