Amazing how single minded most of the media is. It’s a cult with a borg like mentality, that molds every story to fit their narrative. No matter how utterly false and ridiculous their claim.

My wife is a teacher at a private christian school here in OK. Their waitlist is close to the total current enrollment. Parents are putting two and three year olds on the waitlist. All the private schools are experiencing this. Even here parents are concerned over the “agenda” of some of these public school teachers.

Here in a school district the SF Bay Area, about 70 volunteers (including me) worked hard to elect a MAGA school board candidate. We canvassed and phone banked and showed up with the candidate at farmers markets. He won by 200 votes. School board seats can be flipped—it takes work but it can be done.

Why isn’t every sane person with children taking them out of pubic screwls?

“Fleeing means large percentages are leaving, and that simply is not true. It’s a trickle and we need to offer parents alternatives like what was done in AZ.”

Yes. 49 Million children trapped in leftist reeducation camps is too many. Their parents should know better.

Quite simply, public schools in many (not all) venues are turning into cesspools where little if any constructive learning goes on. They have become academies of misinformation and perversions, interested in indoctrination and not an education to prepare young skulls full of mush for the real world.

Reading, writing and arithmetic have become nearly lost arts.

As a school reform proponent for decades, with my Letters to Ed prominently displayed on the local school bulletin/dart boards, I am impatient with the slow rate of reforms. Hope they continue.

Why are Americans fleeing public schools?

Obviously because their innate primal instinct for self survival is kicking in.

FLEE

(verb) to run away, as from danger or pursuers

”parents who want to ban books, anti-LGBTQ rhetoric among parents”

This one is spin. It’s like saying people are fleeing San Francisco because it is not woke enough and doesn’t have enough needles and poop on the sidewalk.

“We believe in the public school system, and it was heartbreaking to leave it.”

Embrace the suck.

Anyone who believes in the public school system ... [never mind].

“Our side is not organized. Otherwise we could “take over” school boards and elect governors that would reform schools and election laws etc.”

It’s not that easy. We did that several years ago in my county. Elected three non-leftist school board members in a suburban county. The teachers union then ran the ugliest, most dishonest, and most vicious political recall campaign (and that was the nice part) I have ever seen to get rid of the three board members who were not union-elected flunkies. Only one of the three could have been considered a conservative. The other two were as middle-of-the-road as you could want. What made them unacceptable is that the union did not control them.

The union brought in hundreds of “volunteers” (teachers from elsewhere in the country on paid leave) to walk precincts and were swimming in dark money. It was like a huge asteroid hitting us. Nasty, ugly people who deserve to roast in Hell.

It takes more than organization. It takes tons of money and the willingness to be just as nasty and vicious as them when the campaign starts. It takes experienced candidates who will run for an office that does not pay a salary, knowing that they will be falsely demonized by a well-financed political machine and that thugs will show up in the middle of the night threatening their children.

Because it is expensive and limited for private schools, cyber schools do not work for all children, and not everyone is capable of home schooling.

(For the record, my kids went to private schools.)

Maybe it is because government schools (they certainly are not public) suck and they are run by leftists. Maybe that is why.

...parents who want to ban books, anti-LGBTQ rhetoric among parents...

The Wash Compost is such joke. I've never in my life met EVEN ONE parent who pulled their kids out of public schools for this reason. How about the fact that many, or even most, private schools use "Christian" or "Catholic" in their names? Doesn't this at least give them a hint about what's going on?

Perhaps during the pandemic parents for the first time became involved with their kids schooling. Many had the opportunity to see via distance learning what their kids were being taught and how well it was taught. Literally having parents in the classroom showed them the failure of the public education system. Sadly due to lockdowns, poorly planned and poorly taught distance learning and the low expectations set by the schools for actual learning we have crippled the education of a generation and done irreparable damage to their socialization skills. We have also seen the teachers unions collude with the Biden Administration to needlessly continue the lockdowns. Anyone who cares about their children’s education are looking for better alternatives than the public schools.

Do you know how much teachers retirements “suffered” as our 401k’s declined 15% forcing people to work another 4 years to make it up? They didn’t suffer, they have “defined benefit” retirement plans that automatically go up every year.

True that. For kicks and giggles I went to this annuity calculator at https://www.bankrate.com/investing/annuity-calculator/ to see how much it'd cost one of us to buy a simple annuity (pension) at the moment we retire. Parameters are $3,333/month (which is $40K/year) with a 3% raise for 25 years. It's like getting a $845K bonus the day you retire.

Two forces against school choice that are not leftist but have a lot of votes/clout:

1) Rural districts which are often the largest employer in a rural area scared of losing funds.

2) Suburban parents in places like the northeastern United States where districts are very small and de facto segregated by neighborhood who don’t want “outsiders” coming in to ruin their schools.
