In a mistake that will make a complicated situation even more confusing, about 9 million Americans received erroneous emails in November saying that their application for the Biden administration’s student debt relief program had been approved.
The administration had said that 26 million borrowers have applied for loan relief (16 million of whom have already been approved for relief), and that the Department of Education “will hold onto their information so it can quickly process their relief once we prevail in court.”
However, CBS News reported that the erroneous messages were part of updates the Department of Education had sent November to inform these 16 million debt relief applicants they had been approved. According to CBS, an additional 9 million people received emails saying they had received loan forgiveness when they had not been approved for relief “because the process was halted due to legal challenges, while some who hadn’t applied also received the emails.”
Accenture Federal Services, which is a contractor with the department, sent the emails with the subject line: “Your Student Loan Debt Relief Application Has Been Approved,” CBS detailed.
Even as President Joe Biden's broad student-loan forgiveness plan remains held up in court, some Republican lawmakers aren't holding back on criticizing other reforms for borrowers.
On Monday, the Republicans on the House education committee published a blog post claiming that Biden is "continuing to make false promises to students" after his announcement to forgive up to $20,000 in student debt for federal borrowers got blocked by two separate federal courts.
The lawmakers wrote that while the broad relief is the most widely discussed, other policies Biden has proposed and implemented, like extending the student-loan payment pause and reforming student-loan repayment programs, will foot taxpayers with a bill to come.

Yes. I think much of current politics is about the “veneer”.
Were voters really upset about abortion? I don’t think it was the hot topic that some claimed. Were people thrilled to get their college loans wiped away? I don’t think it really mattered. Where people really upset about Trump’s latest “scandal”? I doubt it.
But all such things become good excuses after Democrats steal key races. “Hey, this election outcome looks funny to me ...” “Oh, I don’t agree. It’s reasonable — what with the abortion, college loan, Trump stuff going on ...”
They make a handy excuse to justify an election “win” but that doesn’t mean they necessarily had a genuine impact. The ballots are what really matter.

I’m not saying that the cheat wasn’t on, but to say that those issues are not part of it or of minimal effect excuses the part that RINOs have in these elections. What Linda did by proposing the federal abortion law gives cover to the cheat. We all can see the 2 AM Dem bumps after they have figured out how many they need. Purple states need these single issue voters to come out, lessening the total number of votes to have to manufacture.
I do agree that it is a two-pronged approach. The Uniparty tries to manipulate as many actual voters as possible so that races will be somewhat close. And then the cheating is also employed to push certain people over the finish line.
The system is phony in multiple ways. Graham is a good example of a “Republican” who can come up with a terrible idea at just the right time to get out a lot of votes for Democrats.
It’s all a joke.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter because it will stay stricken by the courts.
Unless I miscounted the number of zeros on my calculator, because there were so damn many of them, that’s $180,000,000,000 in tax-payer money that will be effectively transferred to the banks if this goes through. Nice.
