It was once a symbol of hope. Haiti: the first black republic and first Caribbean state to declare independence. Now, it symbolises only death and despair.
The poorest nation in the Western hemisphere, devastated by disasters both natural and man-made, plagued by disease, stalked by hunger, and now over-run by gangs.
There has effectively been no government here since President Jovenel Moise was assassinated last year, a crime which continues to go unpunished.
Into that power vacuum have moved hundreds of highly organised and extremely violent criminal groups which often have links to politicians and police - meaning they are free to kidnap, murder and commit atrocities such as gang rapes at will.
Victims have told of being forced to listen to their loved ones being raped until they pay ransoms, which can reach up to $1million.
In one ten-day orgy of violence in the capital Port-au-Prince back in July, 300 people were killed and at least 50 women and girls were subjected to rapes - many of which happened in front of their young children.
One woman recalled how four men raped her in front of her three-year-old daughter, with the young girl stabbed when she wouldn't stop crying.
Haiti's gang problem is nothing new, but a confluence of recent disasters has caused it to become much more widespread and dangerous.
Many of the country's gangs were first organised by political leaders such Francois 'Papa Doc' Duvalier who created his own paramilitary group to protect himself following and attempted coup in 1958.

Hope is place where the Clinton Global initiative steals millions and orders pizza. Turns out Clinton’s were small time crooks. Biden’s are the big time crooks.
Eggman was out in 1989 but seems like yesterday. They say people hold onto the memories of the songs when they were 17-18 or so. A kid born in 1972 for the Superfly songs like Freddie’s Dead would have been just right for Eggman.
At my age nobody remembers the old time music stars of my youth the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Creem, the Doors, Jefferson Airplane or the Kinks. I spent as much as $5 or even $15-20 to see them in person. Worth it, though.
Just in case you get any ideas, if society devolves into anarchy I have already called Lord Humungus as my title.
"Just walk away..."
I feel bad for the animals stuck on the island.
The people there not so much.
Had to look up the Mad Max 2 synopsis as I never saw it.
During anarchy, anything that works is worth a try.
Crickets from the #metoo crowd.
NOTHING involving blacks gets criticized, when women and young girls being gang raped.
Leftists are utter cowards.
So are they saying it is not a good tourist destination?
In addition to the music of my own generation, I had a great catalog of LPs, 45s & even 78s of my parents’ and grandparent’s to listen to as a youth.
“...with families forced to listen to hostages being gang-raped until they pay ransoms of up to $1million”
Sounds like the Neocons are tired of destroying Ukraine and have decided to move on to Haiti.
>>So glad these AIDS ridden low IQ savages are coming to the US<<
Yea, ain’t that a hoot? My thought was, “when has Haiti NOT been chaos?”
America’s future.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
That is exactly what the future will soon be right here in America It’s inevitable!
“It was once a symbol of hope. Haiti: the first black republic and first Caribbean state to declare independence. Now, it symbolises only death and despair.”
Death and despair—just like every nation in the entire world, that is led by that one particular ethnic group—just as every city in the USA led by that same group is filled with death and despair—example Chicago, Detroit, etc., Never hope, just death, corruption, crime, rape, murder, violence, on and on. One day mankind will learn this.
now that just aint right...
The YouTube channel, ‘Redacted,’ did an excellent expose on the situation in Haiti recently; it’s not necessarily what we are being told by our government. Go figure. Here’s a link to the video, if you care to watch.
Thank you.
Road Warrior is definitely worth watching.
I’m surprised you never saw it considering your age.
Is Conan O’Brien still vacationing there?
Send him in there since its6 such a paradise 🙄
Demographics is destiny.
I knew a retired Rhodesian sas officer who ran mercs around Africa and moved to the western hemisphere when he retired
Some of the stories he had about everyday life there were hard to grasp
And with each format something is lost. Once in a while Record Collector or somewhere lists the lost B sides or the single versions of old songs. The CD era brought in a lot of “best ofs” and “greatest hits” while dropping the ten albums they came from.
Now they’ll say “no longer available” for downloading more and more. And if Amazon is bought someday, a Middle Eastern company will say “no songs by women immodestly dressed.”
