Pence pushes back on Trump’s call to terminate the Constitution

Former Vice President Mike Pence on Monday pushed back on former President Trump’s assertion that the Constitution should be disregarded to allow for him to return to the White House in the wake of new revelations about Twitter’s handling of a controversial story about Hunter Biden.

“I must tell you that I think that everyone that serves in public office, everyone that aspires to serve or serve again should make it clear that we will support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” Pence said on WVOC radio in Columbia, S.C., ahead of a visit to the state on Tuesday.

The former vice president, who has said he is contemplating a 2024 presidential bid, noted that every federal official takes an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution.

Pence added that he believes he upheld his oath to defend the Constitution throughout his four years as Trump’s vice president, particularly in the final weeks of his term as Trump pressured him to reject the 2020 election results.

“Lots of evidence was presented in State Legislatures”

No, it wasn’t. Five state reps yelling in the street doesn’t count. Please provide one example of an in-session State Legislature having one debate or hearing on this subject. You can’t, because none did. In fact Pennsylvania actually adjourned to prevent this from being brought to the floor.

Nov 30th, 2020, AZ State Legislature hearing. (First of many AZ hearings including sponsoring the audits)

December 2nd, 2020, MI Statehouse hearing.

December 3rd, 2020, GA Senate hearings.

I watched the GA, MI and the AZ hearings. As I said, there was plenty of evidence that was presented at those legislature hearings.

You're probably confusing the votes for the slate of electors with what I was describing.

I know they were in a rush, but I watched the testimony in Georgia for days, none of that material ever made it into any sort of lawsuit from Trump.

As I said, they were denied evidentiary hearings in court.

He simply had Giuliani going around on a PR campaign from state to state, more than putting together any sort of actual legal cases.

Giuliani gave extensive evidence where he was allowed to give it, to the GA, MI, AZ and PA legislatures. Giuliani concentrated on the legislatures first because it was the legislatures that had the constitutional authority to pick the electors.

Because, as I understand it and said, he couldn't demonstrate any damages, and therefore had no standing, but until after the election was completed declaring Biden the winner. This is why Kari Lake has been waiting to file her lawsuits alleging fraud (assuming she will), as she has been advised of that required order of events as well. But Trump never followed through with any lawsuits alleging fraud. That would have been the proper next course of action, not asking 2 years later that we forgo the Constitution.

I saw those, and they were brief. As best as I can tell, none of those presentations were ever documented in printed form and provided to the public. Videos may exist, but are hard to find. Again, very brief, and nowhere near the level of evidence required in court.

I know these things because I wanted to build a list of the most damning election evidence right on my FR homepage. You can still see where I started that long ago, but when Trump abandoned the collection or presentation of it, everyone including me just gave up on it. Nothing has changed since then, as no one expects him to ever actually start listing specific evidence of potential election crimes at this point. And without even a good attempt at listing evidentiary proof of election fraud, any plans or desires to circumvent the Constitutional method of resolving this dispute are completely without merit.

You are right. For those who argue that there was no evidence, here is a complete list of 2020 lawsuits - look at the majority of them were dismissed on procedural grounds.

For the cases heard in court, look how many were actually won based on merit.
