Senate Votes to Impose Rail Contract, Rejects Measure Granting Workers 7 Paid Sick Days
Breitbart ^ | 12/01/2022 | Nick Gilbertson

The U.S. Senate voted Thursday to pass a resolution imposing a contract on freight rail workers but rejected a concurrent measure that would give workers seven guaranteed paid sick days.

H.J. Resolution 100 passed the Senate by a margin of 80-15, surpassing the 60-vote threshold. The Biden Administration brokered a tentative deal in August between the unions and carriers, but rank-and-file members of four of the twelve unions in the deal rejected it. Paid sick leave for workers was a central hold-up to the deal moving forward.

No sick leave ?

Like everyone wants a freaking train carrying 100 of 1000 of pounds of highly toxic crap run by some poor sick guy with cognitive impairment.

Congress are fools.

It’s like they want the rail system to collapse.

All to bring in living in a cold dark moldy hole in the ground eating cold bugs utopia.

Spit.

What is this gubmit hangup about some paid sick days? Given that a good many of our congresscritters have never had a real job, and few, if any of them do any real work more than a day a week (we’re not counting corruption, theft, insider trading, deals with China, etc). Were I a railroad worker, I’d tell them to get their fat asses down to the rail yards and experience some real work. (I am not normally a union sympathiser, but sorry, I respect any union man more than I respect any DemocRAT and all RINOs.) Unions, feel free to do to the critters whatever you want. I will look the other way.

Ryan Schmelz on Twitter

"The Senate vote on giving rail workers 7 days of paid sick days fails to get 60 votes.

Braun, Cruz, Graham, Hawley, Kennedy and Rubio were the Republicans voting in support.

Joe Manchin was the only Democrat to not support it."

I understanding that. I’m not a union guy, but I am totally against government being involved in business or labor. My mind can be changed if someone points me to the part of the constitution that gives government the power to engage in labor relations. Congress needs to be put into its place. And in this instance, it seems that labor has a legitimate grievance. Let labor and business fight this one out and both should tell government to pound sand.

So, they might not have gotten the sick leave...

But do they get the raises yhat will lift the average salary to over $100K annually?

That’ll also increase their pensions?

The cap on their health insurance co-pays deductibles, and likely premiums?

That deal?

Cry me a river.

Republicans couldn’t stop it. All they did was be responsible for denying the sick days. They did nothing but confirm they are the party of The Grinch.

do they get off on federal holidays.
Good question. Pretty sure the trains still run on holidays.

how many hours a week do they work.
I don't know.

why...aren’t they getting sick leave...
It would appear the railroads and Republicans don't want them to have sick leave.

would it be in lieu of personal leave?
I read that the railroad's counteroffer was to allow them one day of personal leave.

For CSX, they get 3-6 weeks vacation depending on service. Also 11 paid holidays. They want the Sick Leave on top of the vacations days.

Thanks.

3-6 is normal. They also would have short and long-term disability.

They want to add a new category to slowly increment.

Get a cold, get two days off with no hit on PTO.
