WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Thursday said the Biden administration program to cancel student loans will remain blocked for now, but the justices agreed to take up the case in late winter.
The court’s decision to hear arguments relatively quickly means it is likely to determine whether the widespread loan cancellations are legal by late June.
That’s about two months before the newly extended pause on loan repayments is set to expire.
The administration had wanted a court order that would have allowed the program to take effect even as court challenges proceed. But as a fallback, it suggested the high court hold arguments and decide the issue.

Why don’t the Cellphone poking Snowflakes at the Ass. Press pick up the tab for a while if they are so concerned about the deadbeat freeloaders being blocked from mugging the American taxpayers.
Allow the loan forgiveness plan to take effect while the court challenges continue?
If your loan is forgiven, how can that be reversed later?
Of all things to be against (sigh...). These are kids who were over-charged by colleges and are trying to just live and work for a decent life. Give them a break already.
Then you give them your money. They made a foolish choice as a full grown adult. No responsible adult should be forced to pay for another’s bad choices. Stop trying to steal my taxes for them.
Brilliant. Take it out on me. We definitely don’t want the Colleges and Universities to be told to pick up tab for stealing this money from uneducated kids. Get the taxpayers to cough it up. Give ME a break.
I think the USSC should rule that the DNC pay for all of their college loans
There is no looking at the ability to pay off the loan the student agreed to pay. If a law school student graduated and currently has a six figure job, why should they get a break?
If you went to a state school and weren’t over charged, you still are entitle to the loan forgiveness.
How can you overlook all the flaws in this EO? Going forward why would any student feel obligated to pay back their loan?
Then it will be Congress' job.
What do you believe the likelihood is that this program of his eventually succeeds and is implemented?
“Of all things to be against (sigh...). These are kids who were over-charged by colleges and are trying to just live and work for a decent life. Give them a break already.”
First off they signed up for the debt and with a college degree will out earn the people who will be paying their debts.
Second, let’s say your premise is right. Where does it stop? What else do taxpayers have to pay for for people who “just live and work for a decent life.” Pay for my car? Pay for my RV? Pay for my sail boat? Pay for my XBox? I mean, I am just wanting a decent life.
Third, or this was tongue in cheek without a sarcasm tag.
I think it will be struck down, but in this day and insane age anything is possible.
That’s exactly why the administration wanted it on those terms.
So will the Biden administration program pay back the money to people who paid their loans.
work = Earn
no work = No Earn
Keep it simple stupid
If you overpay a contractor on a poor roofing job, do you think the US taxpayer living next door should reimburse you?
The biggest FLAW in the EO is that BIDEN doesn’t have the LEGAL POWER to execute any of it.
Then later on they’ll expect a break on their car loan, thier mortgage, or name any other debt. That is IF they’ll even be able to secure another loan in the near future, as they just proved they can’t pay back the present one as agreed. In those aspects I see it hurting these kids much more than helping.
they could decide this in 5 minutes if they wanted to. No president has the power to forgive this debt.
And for those who worked to not take on debt, or paid it off, or never went to collage? Entitled much?
