UK: National Grid will not trigger power blackout prevention scheme tomorrow evening

The National Grid will not implement its blackout prevention scheme tomorrrow evening after French energy suppliers said they were struggling to cope with demand.

Earlier today it was announced that the Demand Flexibility Service (DFS), which is designed to avoid blackouts, may have been brought in for the first time on Tuesday evening to reduce strain on the electricity grid.

The scheme sees households, which are signed up for the initiative, paid to not use things like electric ovens, dishwashers and tumble dryers between certain hours.

It is the first line of defence in the event that peak evening demand exceeds supply over the coming winter.

The UK's power grid usually relies on imports from France over the winter months to make up any shortfalls in electricity output.

However, the French nuclear power industry, which accounts for around 75% of its usual electricity generation, is in turmoil.

More than half of the reactors run by state energy firm EDF have been closed due to maintenance and technical problems.

It is exacerbating the wider energy crisis across Europe as countries face down the colder months.

As much as I would like to see it, I doubt Britain will experience energy outages this winter. More likely they’ll just muddle through the shortage.

Stuff like this is why my wife and I have lots of solar and do most of our driving in our EV. To us it's not a "green" energy vs. fossil fuels thing or a save the earth from cow farts thing. We see it as each of us being better off if we're more independent from the things gubment bureaucrats manage.

If my wife and I have to buy 10%-15% of all of our energy from outside sources (i.e. gas for our ICE pickup we every now and then drive, power for the EV if we take it on long trips instead of the ICE pickup, and power for the house during days in a row of rain), then that means the energy bureaucrats control us only 10% as much as they otherwise would.

How Europe, and the northern US, fares simply depends on the severity of this winter season that’s said will be quite severe.

If it is, expect a higher than normal occurance of residential fires and asphyxiations. This I would not like to see.

Oh...I was just being playful about their terms - Normally, we say dryer, or clothes dryer - not tumble dryer like they do.

Like here, that can only happen after complete societal failure occurs…it can never happen as a preventative measure. The full measure of pain and destruction must happen before, to the point where the denizens of their “deep state” are literally running for their lives.
