Households across Britain could be paid on Tuesday evening to help take strain off the country’s energy grid as French nuclear plants will be unable to help deal with demand.
National Grid’s system operator said it was considering the first ever live run of its Demand Flexibility Service – which is designed to avoid blackouts.
"Even though wind is coming back for tomorrow evening’s peak, slow return of nukes in France plus lower temperatures may mean that there is a reduction in available imports across the interconnectors"

UK is going back to the good old days of sailing ships waiting for the wind to blow in the right direction.
Rule Britannia!
I just hope everyone’s virtue-signaling keeps them warm at night.
Pay people to shut off the lights?
Enjoy !
Solidarity with Ukraine!
I was stationed in England 1973-1976. During part of that time the BBC and other TV stations went off the air at 10:30 in an effort to cut down on the electrical use.
Electricity was ALWAYS very expensive anyway and we got no break for that. We could buy gas on base at a good American-like price, but not electricity.
Foreigner, you’ve been right about nothing including fighting for THE Zelenskyy
... When you’re wet, hungry and exposed to the nighttime cold, it doesn’t take long for hypothermia to set in. One bad night is enough. Even moderate hypothermia can cause confusion, decreased reflexes and loss of motor skills in sufferers.
Which explains the drone massacre that’s been playing out lately over contested eastern towns such as Svatove, Pavlivka and Bakhmut. Hypothermic Russian troops aren’t even trying to flee when Ukraine’s bomb-armed quadcopter drones buzz overhead. The soldiers barely flinch when a bomb explodes in their fighting position.
Suicides evidently are on the rise. One especially gut-wrenching video depicts a Russian combatant in scrape outside Bakhmut trying to shoot himself in the chest as a Ukrainian drone watches from directly overhead. The Russian’s ungloved right hand is blue with cold, and he struggles to pull the trigger.
OK, don’t read the linked article

What else does a donkey herdsman watch on the internet?
Amen! Virtue signaling and the costs. I’ll bet someone somewhere is doing the economic analysis of it. I know we import a great deal of gasoline from Europe, since our refining capacity is going down instead of up.
The sun hasn’t shown very brightly on the British Empire for quite some time, either.
Interesting, when France’s nuclear plants are downed then it’s a double whammy with England being without power.
Those who have consistently kept their usage down won’t be paid but those who normally leave on every light in the house but turns them off for that one night will get paid. Yeah, that definitely makes sense.
