The District is still stuck in a pandemic funk. Most days, the city, especially the core downtown blocks around the White House, looks more like a ghost town than a vibrant capital city. Before the coronavirus shutdown, visitors to Washington were often in awe of how many cranes punctuated the skyline. Now, it’s hard to find a building without a “for rent” sign. Coffee shops and restaurants are serving limited hours, if they’re open at all.
Hopes were high for a revival this fall. Schools reopened. Covid cases were way down. Businesses were calling their employees back. But the city has remained at about 45 percent of workers back in the office since Labor Day. That’s worse than New York, Chicago, Houston and the national average for major cities, according to data from the security firm Kastle Systems.

I was there back in June and the natives are not friendly and it is dangerous due to the lack of LE and the inability of one to defend oneself. It isn’t safe.
It would be a shame to lose the Smithsonian.

Sorry, but couldn’t bring myself to go to the link
NEITHER, and been to DC many times before graduating UMd/College Park, and except for some museums, now i have zero interest, and even less empathy. Just another Dumb poorly run city, along with Baltimore, Philly, etc.
And nothing new, really, about the situation. 30 years ago drove through/around Chicago, and came away with fear for my life.
I actually mourn what the city use to represent
……the Smithsonian…..visiting the White House……the statues and monuments…… the heartrending Holocaust Museum…….Museum of the Bible……the double decker buses…….the Spy Museum……Tomb of the Unknown Soldier………
…..We took our young children there ……..the Lincoln Memorial…..the historical and elegant Willard Hotel
DC use to represent, at some level, AMERICA and American values, hopes and dreams
Sadly, you couldn’t pay me to visit now
