Apache historian questions official narratives: ‘How is it possible that 120 soldiers cut off the feet of 8,000 of our brave Indigenous people?’
El Pais ^ | 26/11/22 | Vicente G. Olaya

Posted on 11/27/2022 6:17:46 AM PST by Eleutheria5

Alfonso Borrego is the great-grandson of Geronimo, a prominent leader and medicine man from the Bedonkohe band of the Apache people. Geronimo was known for his fearlessness – he resisted both the Mexican and American militaries when they attempted to remove his people from their tribal lands in the late-1800s.

Borrego, 66, has spent years researching what happened to his people and his great-grandfather. While speaking with EL PAÍS, he discusses the various conflicting narratives that have been pushed over the past century. Some say that the Spanish drove the Indigenous to near-extinction in the United States, while others suggest that the Anglo colonizers were far more cruel against civilian populations.

Born in El Paso, Texas, Borrego generally rejects the “official history” about the conquest that has been constructed by the United States.

“At school, they didn’t let us speak Spanish. They told us that the Spaniards were ‘the worst of the worst.’ But that doesn’t match my research.”

Borrego has also delved into the difficult final years of Geronimo, who surrendered to the American army in 1886 and, until his death in 1909, was “exhibited at fairs and parades by the gringos” in a humiliating fashion.

An engineer and historian by profession, Borrego has become a highly sought-after figure at history conferences in America and Europe.

“I’ve visited [Indigenous] reservations, I’ve met with the tribal chiefs, with Indigenous people, students… I’ve offered a contrast to what the textbooks say. There certainly was an Indigenous genocide, but while the Spaniards committed atrocities, the Anglos were the ones who carried it out,” he affirms in a conversation with EL PAÍS during his brief visit to Madrid.

Some of my ancestors were the Huron, and it was not the White Man who decimated them and drove them from their lands, it was those damned Iroquois. And if there were enough of us left, we would go to war against them.
Our problem was that we allied ourselves with the French White Men, who were not as good a fighters as the English White Men, something that remains true to this day.
Of course, we were not as good a fighters as the Iroquois, that may have had something to do with it.

'I should never have surrendered. I should have fought until I was the last man alive.'

– Geronimo

The conquest of America is always continuing. Indian tribes didn't unite and were wiped off the map with migration. That continues today.

Non united America continues to be destroyed with constant migration. Parties and politicans continue to create division and chaos. We all live on the American reservation now. Less freedom, less future. Whites will be a minority soon, and they will have the same quotes that indians said of the past.

The mockings of past indians defeats will be repeated by aoc and other conquistadors toward whites of today. That is the natural process of humans, when there is no borders, culture, etc.

I've never heard that claim. It wasn't taught to us in history classes.

Probably a modern "historical fact" created out of thin air to heighten the Native American's anger for the white man.

There were also atrocities committed by both sides, in retaliation to retaliate against whomever had committed the last atrocity.

So an Apache Indian (Known for their Murder, Torture, Kidnap Enslavement and brutality to others), has joined with Mexicans (Known for their Murder, Torture, Kidnap Enslavement and Brutality to others), and Mexican media to rehabilitate Spanish Conquistadors (Known for their Murder, Torture, Kidnap Enslavement and Brutality to others), French Occupiers (Known for their Murder, Torture, Kidnap Enslavement and Brutality to others) and South American Indians, (Known for their Murder, Torture, Kidnap Enslavement and Brutality to others), to identify the real Bad Guy uncovered by the Woke World:

The White Guy who Civilized the North American Continent.

Whew, just in time!

yep, the natives were nearly extinct by the time europe got serious about colonization.

A plague (maybe brought by the first explorers) had cleared most of them out.

Plymouth rock happened in 1620 nearly 100 years after the Americas were discovered, more than enough time for the plague brought by the first explorers to have spread and emptied out the continent.

“I’ll take a wild guess and say the native Indian population were always on the verge of near extinction before any White people even showed up.”

Historians say there was a mass hemisphere-wide die off of Indians before the white Europeans got here, and it was caused by rodent-carried disease vector, similar to the mass die-off in Europe at about the same time.

Spanish and “Anglo” are pretty much the same. The Spanish were white folks who didn’t become “hispanic” until they began to have families with indigenous people of Mexico/S America.

I remember when hispanic folks used to b1tch about those hispanic types who call themselves “Spanish” to separate them from the Mestizos, or the abovementioned hybrids. “I’m not a Mexican, I’m SPANISH.” And so on.

If one looks at art from old Spain, one sees white people. There are very few swarthy types in the mix - they have dark hair most of the time, but otherwise: Whities.

So for this dude to try to separate out the Spanish from the “anglos” - weak sauce. The Spanish WERE the Anglos who established themselves in Mexico and S America. The Germans were big there for a while, too.

I am told that is how a big part of my dad’s family got to live in TX and OK: Because they were sent from the East to live on reservations in the Southwest on the “trail of tears.” That’s what I was told, but I never bothered to look it up, so dunno for sure. I do know that as a kid I visited an uncle who was VERY old and lived on the reservation in OK. He had a lot of cool stuff including some hide paintings, arrowheads, and scalps. (SCALPS!!!!!!😍)

Maybe he stole them...?

Anyway, I’m not a great fan of white people these days, but I don’t hate them, either. (I just wonder why Whitey is so cowardly, stupid, and blind compared to how he used to be.) Injuns always seem friendly when one meets them, but I have a number of stories about why one should never tarry when crossing “the res.”

Now I’m remembering that one South Park episode about the reservation Injuns giving all the SP characters SARS. Remember that? That was funny! (I HATE SP now but the memories aren’t all bad.)

I’ve been studying New Mexico genealogy since that’s where my ancestors come from. I have never seen a report of 8000 people’s feet being cut off. I have seen that the Apaches and the Utes etc. would war amongst each other raid the children and sell them to the Spaniards as slaves.
Who knows what the reality is but if you look at the Spanish people of New Mexico they all have Native American blood although they denied it until DNA opened their eyes. My own is 17% through my mother. The blood cannot be traced to Apache or Ute or Navajo, just native. The Spaniards would take the children and make them part of their family, baptize them and yes use them as servants but also marry them. The Indians knew that these children would not be killed by the Spaniards but would be made into Christians.
I have read stories of the Indians bringing children to the Spaniards to take and the Spaniards would say no, we have enough, so the Indians would just start killing them in front of the Spaniards. The Spaniards took the children.

Slavery was a major cause of the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 and other unrest among the indigenous people of northern Mexico. Following the revolt, the business of providing enslaved people for the New Mexico market passed into the hands of the Navajo, Utes, Comanches, and Apaches.

Apache Captives’ Ordeal

Suddenly, like a clap of thunder from a clear sky, the Apache gave a bloodthirsty yell. Jumping up from where they sat, they drew short, thick clubs from beneath their wolfskins and rushed the astonished family. Lorenzo took the first blow, falling headfirst to the ground. His father was surrounded and beaten to death in an instant. Two attackers seized Olive and Mary Ann, holding them to one side while their companions quickly finished the work. In less than a minute, the rest of the Oatmans were beaten down and slain, Mrs. Oatman dying with her youngest son still clasped in her arms.

The Apache dubbed the Oatman girls the ‘Onatas,’ and soon made them understand their status in the tribe: they were slaves. ‘You have been fed too well,’ the Indians taunted; ‘we will teach you to live on little.’ The Apaches’ favored food was meat–deer, ground squirrel or snake–boiled into a kind of mush. This however was reserved for the men. The women of the tribe, and most especially female prisoners, were expected to spend every waking hour in quest of edible vegetation, such as yucca buds, wild onion, cactus root and prickly pear fruit. It was a miserable diet for the Oatman girls, requiring terrible labor to maintain a bare subsistence, and it was made all the more bitter by the taunting behavior of the Apache. ‘They invented modes,’ recalled Olive, ‘and seemed to create necessities of labor, that they might gratify themselves by taxing us to the utmost, and even took unwarranted delight in whipping us on beyond our strength.’

I would know he lives in El Paso, which is a highly racist, anti-white, Democrat cesspool very corner of Texas that hates all things Texan and white, and makes a buck off of nonsense like this.
