Western sanctions catch up with Russia's wartime economy
National Post [Canada] / WP ^ | Nov. 26, 2022 | Catherine Belton and Robyn Dixon

... The situation has worsened considerably since the summer when, buoyed by a steady stream of oil and gas revenue, the Russian economy seemed to stabilize. Figures released by the Finance Ministry last week show a key economic indicator—tax revenue from the non-oil and gas sector—fell 20 percent year in October compared with a year earlier, while the Russian state statistics agency Rosstat reported that retail sales fell 10 percent year on year in September, and cargo turnover fell 7 percent....

“The spiral is escalating, and there is no way out of this now.” ...

The Western ban on technology imports is affecting most sectors of the economy, while the Kremlin’s forced mobilization of more than 300,000 Russian conscripts to serve in Ukraine, combined with the departure of at least as many abroad fleeing the draft, has dealt a further blow, economists said. In addition, Putin’s own restrictions on gas supplies to Europe, followed by the unexplained explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, has led to a sharp drop in gas production—down 20 percent in October compared with the previous year. Meanwhile, oil sales to Europe are plummeting ahead of the EU embargo expected to be imposed Dec. 5....

Deeper problems were also lurking in the Russian banking sector, where most accounting has been classified. The Russian Central Bank reported this week that a record $14.7 billion in hard currency was withdrawn from the Russian banking system in October, amid increasing anxiety over mobilization and the state of the economy....

Last week, as the Russian economy officially entered into recession, Central Bank Chairwoman Nabiullina told lawmakers that next year the situation could get darker still. “We really need to look at the situation very soberly and with our eyes open. Things may get worse, we understand that,” she said....

nick, put down the Krokodil, you’re hallucinating===

Look like you have a good knowledge with hallucinate staff)).. I’m not.

Putin isn’t going to use any nukes, cuz the moment he would try that, Russia would be flattened ... with the World’s approval==

Then the “world” will be flattened in return. Also consider whose population density is higher. This one will suffer more casualties. Hundreds of millions.

I think you either simply don’t understand the situation or you are plain crazy. Russia has enough nukes to flatten back whoever will attack her.

We could have conquered and occupied Russia during the dissolution of the Soviet Union with a plan to keep it indefinitely, but we don’t behave that way.===

You are under some delusion sir. HOW you can occupy the 250 mils nation (USSR) with 10000 strategic nukes?

And you tell it after clear fiasco with Iraq and Afghanistan. You have indeed lost your mind.

The difference between now and WWII is that in WWII the US was on russian side against the nazis. The US provided an enormous never ending supply of weapons and supplies just like its doing now for ukraine. only this time the germans and the rest of Europe and Japan and the aussies are also against Russia.

This is not a good look for putin. its not great for the west either. the biggest winner here is china.

“Good morning. Day 4 of the blackout. Day 276 of the war. We are in Kyiv. Warm. Our “generator on the balcony” project yesterday did not really work out. The generator was loud and working but the heater in our bedroom would not bring temperature up beyond a couple of degrees”

“Good morning. Day 3 of Kyiv Blackout. I woke up cold. The heating and electricity are off, again. Water is there. But it might not last. Another attack or just too much pressure on the system. So, yesterday, after the water came back, we filled every bottle and bucket”

That is the fear that Russia actually learns from their terrible performance, but it will take quite a transformation from their existing methods. They don’t have an educated NCO tier in the military. It’s basically Brains (officers) and bodies (enlisted/conscription). Which is doomed to failure until they change that methodology.

I don’t hardly bothering at all with reading your or your cohorts posted articles because 1) you and your cohorts don’t read those who post counter articles, evidences, etc. and 2) cause virtually all the so-called articles you post are utter rubbish that better belongs reserved as toilet paper.

Ruble stopped being convertible after the sanctions were imposed

nobody knows what the real ruble rate is

The fact that ruble is not convertible in London and NYC means nothing because the Russians do not buy anything there.
It is perfectly convertible in China, Turkey, Gulf Kingdoms and India.
