While there’s been no official word, legendary British rockers Pink Floyd have been shopping their recorded-music catalog and other assets for several months, seeking as much as $500 million, according to the Financial Times, with both major music companies and investment firms as the top bidders. But sources say an explosive new interview with founding member, main songwriter and stakeholder Roger Waters — in which he makes extensive remarks about Israel, Ukraine, Russia, the U.S. and other political matters that one could politely characterize as controversial — is giving at least one potential buyer cold feet and seems likely to lead others to rethink their positions.
For years Waters has sounded off about politics in the press and at his concerts, most controversially Israel’s policies. But the new interview in Rolling Stone raises (or lowers) the bar considerably. While interviewer James Ball does his best to challenge some of Waters’ more far-fetched statements, the former Pink Floyd singer argues emphatically that some Jewish people in the U.S. and U.K. bear responsibility for the actions of Israel “because they pay for everything”; that well-documented accounts of Russian war crimes in Ukraine are “lies, lies, lies”; that the United States is “the most evil [country in the world] of all by a factor of at least 10 times”; that Russia’s brutal military involvement in Syria is justified because “they were there at the invitation of the Syrian government” (which is led by one of the world’s most murderous dictators, Bashar Assad), and more. (See a 12,000-word transcript of the interview here).

Why would Pink Floyd want to sell off their catalog? Are they in need of money?
Alot of artists are doing it like Springsteen and Bob Dylan. The music industry is dead. Its one big buyout and thats it.
Right now there are investment groups willing to spend that cash.
There is no further money to make anymore in music.
Waters has been mouthing off for years. I like his art and despise his politics.
They’re all old, better to take a very big lump sum now.
As to Waters, genius musically, typical idiot lefty in his views.
Covid destroyed the live concert as well as those ridiculously high ticket prices and the album royalty was killed off by Spotify and Apple downloads per song.
THe average music consumer pays per song not album. Anytime the album is offered , its part of a capped royalty limit such as Spotify. You get all the albums of an artist and the artist gets a one time fixed fee nowehere near what they got when you bought the original album for $12 back in the 70’s and 80’s.
Floyds kids will get that money because Floyd the group sure isnt going on the road at 80 years of age.
The Stones are probably the only exception but eventually they will do this when the well is completely dry.The Stones can still sell DVDs and full albums.
Most of his views are applauded by the far left- they’ll probably get $600 million for the catalog
Don’t care. Roger Waters is quite the tool.
Baby boomers will be a forgotten generation as they pass. They really didn’t add much to the world, except music which only interests those of the same generation or approximately.
Nobody born in the late 80’s or later listen to it. So, most of the music created by the baby boomers will disappear over time and be forgotten about.
He’s smart to sell out while he’s spry enough to enjoy the money.
The ramblings of Waters will not diminish value. I think David Gilmour sees it as a way to NEVER have to interact with Roger Waters who he despises.
And they said Syd Barrett was the crazy one.
Never liked the guy.
Waters is a full-blown idiot like Rob Reiner.
And I detest Pink Floyd.
I never cared for Pink Floyd’s music outside a few songs. Surprised that it could go for 500 million.
Waters has always been a nutjob on politics. He’s just going to drive the price of their music and hurt gilmour and mason.
At $500M, someone seems to think there’s money to be made.
As a Boomer, your stereotyping is despicable and indicative of a low IQ intellect lacking a grasp on reality.
I heard Oingo Boingo playing in a commercial at the USA vs England world cup.
