Why would Pink Floyd want to sell off their catalog? Are they in need of money?

Alot of artists are doing it like Springsteen and Bob Dylan. The music industry is dead. Its one big buyout and thats it.
Right now there are investment groups willing to spend that cash.

There is no further money to make anymore in music.

They’re all old, better to take a very big lump sum now.

As to Waters, genius musically, typical idiot lefty in his views.

Covid destroyed the live concert as well as those ridiculously high ticket prices and the album royalty was killed off by Spotify and Apple downloads per song.

THe average music consumer pays per song not album. Anytime the album is offered , its part of a capped royalty limit such as Spotify. You get all the albums of an artist and the artist gets a one time fixed fee nowehere near what they got when you bought the original album for $12 back in the 70’s and 80’s.

Floyds kids will get that money because Floyd the group sure isnt going on the road at 80 years of age.

The Stones are probably the only exception but eventually they will do this when the well is completely dry.The Stones can still sell DVDs and full albums.

Baby boomers will be a forgotten generation as they pass. They really didn’t add much to the world, except music which only interests those of the same generation or approximately.

Nobody born in the late 80’s or later listen to it. So, most of the music created by the baby boomers will disappear over time and be forgotten about.

He’s smart to sell out while he’s spry enough to enjoy the money.
