Members of Germany’s national soccer team protested FIFA’s ban on players wearing LGBTQ armbands at the World Cup by covering their mouths when posing for a team photo.
All players for Germany’s starting 11 posed for the team’s official photo before their opening match Wednesday against Japan by using their right hand to cover their mouth.
The protest was in response to the international soccer governing body’s threat to impose sanctions on Germany and six other European nations if their players wore rainbow-printed armbands in support of LGBTQ rights during this year’s World Cup tournament.
According to FIFA rules, players are required to wear only what is authorized as part of their team’s uniform. On Monday, the organization threatened to issue yellow cards to players who break the rules.

is this the team that lost to Japan? Maybe they should focus on soccer.
Germany lost to Japan today.
Germans love their armbands!
Should have covered their butts as well.....................
Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of fellas!
I like when globohomo silences itself. Wish it happened every day.
And then proceeded to lose their game. Focus.
It will be very tough for them to get out of the group now.
Meanwhile...the Japanese team celebrates
IF they really meant it...
They would just refuse to play.
If enough teams did this. And the tournament ended weeks sooner than expected, the loss of revenue would be massive.
Between TV broadcasts, ad revenue, merchandise. Not to mention the massive loss for Qatar as far as fans pulling out early. Loss of hotel revenue. vendors etc.
Not to mention a massive PR loss by Qatar as any sort of potential tourist destination.
Enjoy your women being groped by Turkish and North African filth.
I think almost all the alpha males died in WWI & WWII.
These drama queens just want attention.
Sure is.
exactly.
If they really meant it. they’d put their jobs and paychecks on the line.
We’re back to the basic so rules being protested trying change to a group they do not govern. If you as a group, Germany, do not agree with the rules that were established long before the tournament started as uniform rules are reviewed and looked at for possible change annually, and your preference was not included, then don’t compete in the tournament and make sure you are in on the next FIFA meeting to suggest your inclinations. FIFA is not demanding you be in the tournament so your country can make big money and prestige of the sports competition, just how you conduct and represent yourselves for the better of their tournament you can participate in according to a pre-prescribed in their minds set of rules.

When I see major upsets in a soccer tournament — like Japan over Germany and Saudi Arabia over Argentina — I really have to wonder whether the players from the top national soccer teams even want to be over there in that strange place.
Why can’t sport just be sport? Why have to drag all this LGBTQRS into it? What is so essential about some stupid virtue-flashing armband?
Kraut idiots
If they had the nerve, Germany's national soccer team would have covered their mouths with the banned armbands!
Are they there to play soccer or to play cut-ups?
Virtue signaling—the last refuge of conformist jerks.
