We’re still days away from the official beginning of the 2022 World Cup, and we already have our first tense encounter between a reporter and a Qatari official caught on live television. Danish reporter Rasmus Tantholdt was reporting live on TV2 when a group of men approached him in a golf cart, clearly upset with him filming. One man waved at the camera, but another tried to cover it up, which quickly escalated into a heated exchange.

Or so I'm told.
Qataris have a right to run their country as they see fit. It’s as simple as that. When the military deployed all over the world, we were told to respect the local customs. That’s common sense but is apparently difficult for decadent Westerners to accept nowadays.
In the 90’s, a good friend of mine used to teach English to young adult males of sheik families. He also needed to spend a great deal of time teaching them that their backward asshole ways would get them beaten up in Texas, where many of them were assigned to travel for business.
Yeah but the FIFA officials can now redecorate their Swiss chalets.
Nice place - only something like 6,500 slaves died to make the dream city for the AQ and ISIS supporting Kinkdom.
Well, they all get to be the leader that way.
Well, FIFA has the right not to play there. The Qataris said this sort of thing wouldn’t happen and I’ll bet these local officials in the golf cart didn’t get the Qatari President’s edict on that or how to handle a more delicate situation than “my way or the highway”.
I’m fine with them going their own way, but they if really want the money and prestige of the World Cup, they’re gonna have to bend a bit.
Hard to feel sorry for journalists...
LOL....last time I was in Doha was the 90s. Much different than today.
“want the money and prestige of the World Cup, they’re gonna have to bend a bit.”
They should kick the US team (and its rainbow flag) out of the country.
6500 died...maybe but no one will know the truth. I was in the Gulf States when Russian whores were dumped in the gulf. Rumors at that time were prisoners were drive out to the desert. The 1990s were a different time.
The count has actually been documented (on the low side). I have no link as I didn’t save it.
They destroyed a lot of prestige of the World Cup by buying it for this year.
I don’t care about their social/religious views; the world knew them in 2010 when they “won” the World Cup for 2022, and pretending to care about them now is hollow virtue-signaling.
20 years in the middle east and nothing surprises me any longer.
The system for contractors and labor was for families/small communities to pay a contractor to “hire” their people. That contractor would sell them to another contractor. The new contractor would then charge them for rent and food. Some laborers would have to work for years before seeing any money.
Tough situation.
