Analysis: U.S. House Republican farm bill approach may test Biden hunger, climate goals

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden's pledges to slash emissions from farming and to end American hunger by 2030 may be harder to realize now that Republicans flipped the House of Representatives with a thin majority.

Biden's Democrats, who retain control of the Senate, will start negotiating in the coming months with Republican House leaders over a massive farm spending bill passed every five years that funds U.S. public food benefits and farm commodity programs.

The current $428 billion bill expires on Sept. 30, 2023.

“We know the Republicans will be less excited about innovation and will probably want to protect the status quo,” said Vanessa García Polanco, policy campaigns co-director of the National Young Farmers Coalition, a nonprofit group.

With Republicans about to control the House, policy advocates said anti-hunger and environment groups may have to scale back policy proposals they had hoped to get included in the bill such as rewarding farmers for climate-friendly practices and expanding food benefits.

About 75% of farm bill funds go toward anti-hunger programs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also called food stamps. USDA data shows about 41 million people have received SNAP benefits this year.

Start negotiating? LOL! Probably in good faith too right? Expecting things to run as usual and achieve nada.

So the Dems had a plan to eliminate hunger, but the Republicans thwarted it because they want people to starve. Got it.

We've always been at war with Eastasia.

Thank God for Joe Biden.

Next we'll have "Whip Inflation Now" buttons.

Right out of the gate! No warming up in the bullpen. “Republicans are starving people”. I love these old Reagan narratives.

If the GOP sticks together and the senate goes 50-50, all of the shutdown can be laid in the lap of Kamalalala.

I’m not holding my breath since the GOP has never been known to possess a pair.

Regarding SNAP: when I was laid off from my job, the job-referral agency associated with Unemployment Insurance offered the paperwork for me to sign up for SNAP while job-hunting. Interestingly, I was unable to get unemployment benefits because of the manner in which I was separated, but there was no such bar to the food program.

Then there were other programs I was told I could submit an application. With a good chance I would be accepted.

Why did I not accept all this "free stuff"? Maybe because I'm a Boomer, with a sense of pride and a strong distaste of appearing to be a free-loader. Instead, I buckled down and got freelance work to pay for the cat kibble.

It seems as though the National Young Farmers Coalition is more concerned with Social Justice BS than they are about agriculture. Crop Yields? Nah, racial equity is the focus...

Lincoln said something to the effect:

It is easy to be a farmer when your plow is only a pen.

At the same tome——

REMIND me how many ILLEGALS have invaded us in the past 22 months.

They also need to be fed-—or removed-—

MAKE your choice.

“and to end American hunger by 2030”

Classic rat subterfuge. Propose a nation killing bill that will cause misery but put a bow on it that no sane person could oppose to shove it through. There seems to be no stopping this cancer.

We’ve seen how good Biden’s pledges turn out he’ the most stupidest president that ever was anywhere he and Nero would have been great buddies.

Two very contradictory goals, yet the sheeple aren't supposed to catch it:

"U.S. President Joe Biden's pledges to slash emissions from farming and to end American hunger by 2030"

Making it harder for farmers to grow food doesn't help end American hunger.
