Resignations Roil Twitter as Elon Musk Tries Persuading Some Workers to Stay
The New York Times ^ | Nov. 17, 2022 | Ryan Mac, Mike Isaac and David McCabe

Hours before a Thursday deadline that Elon Musk had given Twitter employees to decide whether to stay or leave their jobs, the social media company appeared to be in disarray.

Mr. Musk and his advisers held meetings with some Twitter workers whom they deemed “critical” to stop them from leaving, four people with knowledge of the conversations said. He sent out confusing messages about the company’s remote work policy, appearing to soften his stance on not allowing people to work from home before warning their managers, according to those people and internal emails viewed by The New York Times.

All the while, two people said, resignations started to roll in. By the deadline, 5 p.m. Eastern time, hundreds of Twitter employees appeared to have decided to depart with three months of severance pay, the people said. Twitter later announced via email that it would close “our office buildings” and disable employee badge access until Monday.

The exits added to the turmoil at Twitter since Mr. Musk, 51, completed his $44 billion takeover last month. The billionaire has laid off half of Twitter’s 7,500 full-time workers, fired dissenters and told employees that they need to be “extremely hard core” to make the company a success.

It’s beginning to sound like Elon will be better off shutting Twitter down for a year or two until all the culture wars have subsided. Either shut it all down, or operate on a skimmed down, simplified work model for now.
A lot of those quitting workers are probably quitting just because their friend says they will. Not thinking for themselves.

I bet a lot of people in India would love to work for Twitter. Elon can hire them. Problem's solved.

Most of Twitter can be botted. Just have the bots police specific phrases and have just enough workforce to maintain the code.

There are 7,500 employees working for Twitter. Elon can have it under 1,000. And they can all work in India so he can save on costs.

How much staff is needed? It is a little website and app. Craigslist is famous for having operated with a skeletal staff for many years now.

Craigslist and a few other longtime sites taught me what it means when a website has no intention of allowing you to speak to someone in real time about a question or problem.
Craigslist and Google will refer you to one of their ‘forums’
where your Average Joe or Jane chatters about topics all day long.

Sometimes that way is helpful, most times not really.
Most online retailers have begun offering the chance for online chats with a customer service rep. You just have to get used to your rep usually being from India or Russia.
Better than being referred to ‘the forum’.

Twitter didn’t have a huge workforce presence in India, but this week it has been drastically reduced, with over 90% of staff in the region let go. Exact numbers aren’t being shared at this point, but what is known is that previously there were around 200 members of Twitter staff based in India. Now, there are 12.

Mostly useless. Elon Musk is right to let them go. He can replace a couple vacancies with Indians. They will actually work. And they won't ***ch about it.

Let them go Elon. There aren’t enough jobs out there for them to last more than a couple months or so.
Soo, they will need work. They will come back with a better attitude.
