Ukraine war: 10 million without power after Russian strikes
BBC ^ | 11-17-22 | Catherine Byaruhanga in Kyiv & James FitzGerald

President Volodymyr Zelensky has said 10 million Ukrainians are without power after a fresh wave of missile strikes by Russia.

At least seven people were killed in the strikes, with the number expected to rise.

"We are doing everything to normalize the supply," Mr Zelensky said in his nightly address.

Ukraine's air defence managed to shoot down six cruise missiles and five drones, he added.

On Thursday, Russia pounded Ukraine with a fresh missile barrage, hitting more energy installations and other civilian buildings less than two days after one of its heaviest bombardments yet.

Seven people died when a missile hit their apartment block in Vilnyansk, near the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, the Ukrainian presidency said.

A gas production plant in the east and a missile factory in Dnipro were among the latest targets, officials say.

Those suffering power outages are mainly in the capital, Kyiv, the western city of Vinnytsia, the port city of Odesa in the south-west and Sumy in the north-east.

Yes, Libya is a failed state sprouting slave markets. It was obvious to me from the get-go of Op Idiocy Dawn that would be the outcome. And I’m hardly a North African specialist, so if li’l ol’ me could see it...

Libs (and even some conservatives) were extremely skeptical of my prediction and shocked when it came true. Okay, how were they to know any better? But surely Foggy Bottom, the Pentagon, etc. had to know. Interesting that we wanted to turn Libya into a failed state, eh wot?

Some time after the war, a dismayed Libyan being interviewed said “Before, we just had one big Gaddafi. Now we have a thousand little Gaddafis.”.

First, we were the Air Force of the narco-terrorist KLA. Then the terrorist barbarians of Benghazi and slavers of Misurata. Hmm.

Odessa is not an "ethnically Russian city"

And even among those "ethnically Russian" - the vast majority do NOT want to be ruled by the Kremlin

If Mr. Z could hit Moscow—he would have by now. I believe this is only phase one—next comes the railroad tracks and bridge

Z doesn't direct the military operation. he's the political side of the fence

And no, Ukraine hasn't even been bombing Russian towns close to the border because they don't want to give Putin a chance to say "motherland in danger, come fight"

The Goal will be to attack the Ukraine Army from behind the Donbass Line and take the whole of the province. This will knock out the Ukraine Army and roll them up to the river. Then a new attack will come from Belarus as they join the war and they head towards Kiev and Victory—On Russian Terms. They will be lucky to keep Odessa.

And that's after they use Mandalorian space lasers or before?

your fantasy might have seemed plausible on February 20th, but today it is clear that Putin's army can't advance any more. Their movement is backwards, back into Muscowy

There is much more than 10 million without power. Do remember, the Soviets built everything in Ukraine, and ALL the equipment needed to replace the destroyed grid is MADE IN Russia.

I find it entertaining the West’s folly to sanction Russia and create a revolt has been turned back upon them. The EU nations are demonstrating in the streets, and the Ukies when thrown back into a dark Stone Age will end up revolting against their corrupted little beggars destruction agenda- the West’s agenda to fight Vlad down to the last Ukrainian is right on schedule.

Unfortunately, the Ukie population is in store for some extreme suffering. It is said, nations suffer for the leadership ( corrupted) they choose.

Yes, please do pray for the Ukrainian population, their corrupted leadership has betrayed them….” Woe to the destroyers ….you will be destroyed, woe to the BETRAYERS, you will be betrayed…..

The corrupted little beggar Zelensky had better prepare for his own “ betrayal “, siding with a senile corrupted old man named Biden was a very , very big mistake.

Beautiful. Reminds me of this painting in a way:

But so very, very sad, knowing the power is out.

The thing is, the Ukrainians wanted peace, wanted Minsk. Zelensky ran on a peace ticket and won over 70% of the vote. After he failed to deliver, his approval rating dropped, and had dipped to around 20% just before the Russian invasion.

More here (worthwhile to watch the Trump-Zelensky press conference — you see a very different Zelensky):

Yes, he also ran on an anti-corruption platform as every Ukrainian politician has, and the Pandora Papers were also a major factor in the decline of his popularity. Poor Ukrainians, always voting for anti-corruption, and always getting leaders more corrupt than the last bunch.

Jumper - why do you call it Z-land?

Zelenskyy is a clown no doubt, but he’s hardly a dictator - he was elected in 2019 over Poroshenko who was elected in 2014.

The Ukrainians aren’t fighting for Z, they’re fighting for their loved ones against the invading Putin’s army.

Why do you think the Ukrainians want to keep fighting? Because they thought that 2014 would be the end of Putin’s rapaciousness. But it wasn’t - Putin then came back for more slices of Ukraine - and as ganeemead has made clear, Putin will come back for Odessa etc.

Ukraine isn’t Z-land -> you give Zelenskyy too high an importance.

If Ukraine was a house of cards, then they would have collapsed in February/March when paedoBiden gave up on it and the Ukrainians were fighting off Putin’s army on their own.

It is increasingly clear that this war is ordinary Ukrainians fighting against Putin’s army. This is not Zelenskyy directing it.

The ordinary Ukrainians are running this, so if Zelenskyy goes, the Ukrainians will keep fighting until Putin leaves.

In contrast, on the Russian side - get rid of Putin and that house of cards collapses. This war is Putin’s war.

Thank you for a breathe of truth, REALITY. Good to see some have not bought into Biden’s Ukie war, because rooting for Biden’s war is rooting for destruction, destruction of Ukraine and the West as we had known it.

Americans ( and the West) need to wake up, and wake up quickly.Time is getting short.

I live in Poland - we had a refugee family with us for 2 months. They then returned home, they live north of Kyiv (not Bucha, thank goodness).

Around a month or two ago, the mother came back to start work in a factory in western Poland (as you can imagine, there are no jobs in Ukraine) and we met with her and some other Ukrainian women who came to work to send money back to their families.

All of these were Russian speakers; all of them had male members of their family fighting. A few had male family members who had died fighting Putin’s invasion force.

All of them wanted to keep fighting - and I was as suprised as you.

Why?

Because they said (what I wrote above) - that they saw that Putin took land in 2014, they thought that was the end. Then Putin came back and attacked Kyiv and wanted to capture the entire coastline. They believe that if Putin gets to keep the land he’s taken today, he will come back in 8 more years and unleash hell again.

All of them believe that it is time to push Putin OUT once and for all, or Putin will come back in a few years and come back and revisit hell.

Consider you as a home owner — a home breaker with his cronies takes your front porch and your living room and part of your corridor. He even attempts to capture your main bedroom, but you push him out and kill his main guy.

He rapes one of your daughters and threatens to do more.

Then in your living room he runs a poll of his cronies and the vote is that your living room is now his.
Now you are pushing him out, step by step and he’s begging for negotiations for him to keep what he has of your house.

If you let him keep this he then rests and in some time he will come back for more.

You decide that this living in continuous apprehension is not worth it, you will push him out NOW, while you have impetus.

cranko Do I need to link all the false and incorrect “predictions” made from the US/NATO/EU/UK/West?

You haven't listed them at all -- all the false and incorrect predictions are from you in the Kremlin

It isn’t paedoBiden’s war — Biden was the one who withdrew American advisors in February and he tried to get Zlensky to leave for Kyiv to fall like Kabul.

Biden is also trying to push Ukraine to “give up land for an armstice”

This war is Putin’s war.

I’ve been keeping an eye on Ukraine since the mid 90s, closer eye over the past decade. I mostly stay off these threads because the vast majority are like football hooligan slugfests, Twitter style. Ignorant inflamed people getting vicious (and sometimes quite unhinged) over what they have little to no understanding of. There’s rarely anything to learn, which is sad. Just insults and name calling and yay for my team, death to your team.

And sorry, it’s both sides doing it. Case in point:

https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4109968/posts?q=1&;page=65#65

Occasionally, there is something interesting, like the graph at post #82. I doubt it proves what he thinks it does, but still interesting. And tragic.
