Road Trip: Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota

SDellsworth1

Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base located about 10 miles northeast of Rapid City, South Dakota, just north of the town of Box Elder.

The host unit at Ellsworth is the 28th Bomb Wing (28 BW). Assigned to the Global Strike Command's Eighth Air Force, the 28 BW is one of the Air Force's two B-1B Lancer wings.

The mission of the 28th Operations Group, whose motto is to find and kill the enemy, is to provide combat-ready B-1 bomber aircrews for world-wide taskings, including conventional operations and power projection. Airmen in the 28th OG fly the B-1, plan and support combat operations, and develop deployment plans. Additionally, they manage the base airfield, radar approach control facilities, and air traffic control tower. The group also includes a weather section, a life support flight, and flight and tower simulators.

The Airmen of the 28th Maintenance Group are responsible for fixing and providing maintenance on the 27 B-1 bomber aircraft at the base as well as associated support equipment. The 1,500 professionals conduct periodic inspections and intermediate-level maintenance, and work around the clock in all types of weather at locations around the globe, to ensure the bombers, equipment, and munitions are ready for combat.

The 28th MXG is comprised of four squadrons: the 28th Maintenance Operations Squadron, 28th Munitions Squadron, 28th Maintenance Squadron, and 28th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

Sdellsworth5

The 89th Attack Squadron (formally the 432nd Attack Squadron), the newest operational squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base. The 89th ATKS mission is to remotely employ MQ-9 Reaper aircraft from ground control facilities located at Ellsworth AFB in support of worldwide combatant commander requirements.

The 89th ATKS continues this proud heritage of supporting the national security of the United States. The 89th ATKS will provide combatant commanders with actionable precision reconnaissance capabilities for time critical targets, air interdiction, close air support, and strike coordination.

Howdy, Kathy.

It looks like you had a pretty day up there after a night of rain that changed over to snow.

Good luck getting through Hell Week with sanity intact.

Using Your Voice
Read: Exodus 4:10–17

I will help you speak and will teach you what to say. Exodus 4:12

Since age eight, Lisa had struggled with a stammer and became afraid of social situations that required her to talk with people. But later in life, after speech therapy helped her overcome her challenge, Lisa decided to use her voice to help others. She began volunteering as a counselor for an emotional distress telephone hotline.

Moses had to face his concerns about speaking to help lead the Israelites out of captivity. God asked him to communicate with Pharaoh, but Moses protested because he didn’t feel confident in his speaking ability (Exodus 4:10). God challenged him, “Who gave human beings their mouths?” Then He reassured Moses saying, “I will help you speak and will teach you what to say” (vv. 11–12).

God’s response reminds us that He can work powerfully through us even in our limitations. But even when we know this in our hearts, it can be hard to live it out. Moses continued to struggle and begged God to send someone else (v. 13). So God allowed Moses’ brother Aaron to accompany him (v. 14).

Each of us has a voice that can help others. We may be afraid. We may not feel capable. We may feel we don’t have the right words.

God knows how we feel. He can provide the words and all we need to serve others and accomplish His work.Jennifer Benson Schuldt

How might God want to use your words to help others? How does it encourage you to know that He works through us even in our fear and weaknesses?

Dear God, please show me how I can serve You with my voice today.

Hey there, radu!

Yes, I feel much better today. I slept pretty good during the night, too, which helped a lot.

I’m guessing it’s pretty cold there? Did you get any rain yet? It’s been chilly here, too, and it was quite blustery this morning.

A good night’s sleep does wonders. LOL

Not cold here today, thank goodness, but it’s short-lived. I got out and ran several errands since it was so nice (53 and sunny) and the rest of the week will be cold again.

The rain hasn’t gotten here yet but it’s getting close. We aren’t expecting much but a little something is better than nothing.

Coming soon, assuming the Mr. Bumbles, the Clown-In-Chief, doesn’t screw this up, too.

Indeed, a little rain is better than none. And none is what we’ve had for weeks. Hubby had to water the yard this week to keep it from dy!ing over the winter months. He’ll probably have to do that one more time.

Glad you had a nice day for running errands. Nothing says “forget the errands” like a cold miserable day. LOL

Oops...forgot to hit send. Maybe I need more sleep.

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this morning's thread.

How's everyone doing this morning?

I’ll be surprised if we get anything, to be honest. The air’s so dry, the rain that’s moved over us already didn’t reach the ground. That’s going to be the case until the air is moistened and I don’t know if there’s enough rain with this system. It’s not very impressive right now.

I’m starting to get concerned about our water since we’re on a well. We’ve been dry for months.

Yeah, it was too nice a day to not take advantage of it though I really didn’t feel up to it. But errands got done and we’re good for the rest of the week.
