NBC Bay Area ^ | 11/10/2022 | Jaxon Van Derbeken

Millennium Tower fix engineers have scrapped an elaborate strategy designed to prevent more tilting at the troubled high-rise as they push to complete the project – a shift in strategy that critics say amounts to gambling, but monitoring data suggests is paying off so far.

Back in June, after the building tilted nearly three more inches to the west toward Fremont Street in a matter of months...

OK. That’s not good. It was tilting at the rate of 3 inches per year. The total tilt is now over 2 *feet*. It’s enough tilt that some plumbing lines in the building no longer properly drain due to lack of slope.

When a home seller lists a property, they generally fill out a property condition disclosure...which usually includes local detrimental elements that would negatively IMPACT😎 the home’s safety and value. I wonder if the seller is required to disclose that they are in the path of a 58-story building that may fall on them?

The area is also reclaimed land. It was once part of the bay.

The "authorities" are arguing over who is responsible for issuing the building permits.....

Someone in the know text to Trump

He will get a laugh at the Pelosi dims at the next rally

No wonder Pelosi wants to be ambassador in Italy.

And has a residence in Florida.

Out of sight...out of mind...(no pun intended)

Just south of SF is Crystal Springs reservoir, a man-made lake with a 100 year old concrete dam holding it back.

The San Andreas fault runs right down the middle of the lake.

Located in San Francisco’s financial district at Fremont and Mission Streets and next to the Salesforce Transit Center and a bus terminal, the Millennium Tower is a 58-story, 645-foot-tall tower, and it is the tallest residential building in the city

I seem to recall that the Transit Center has not opened....as has a similar problem....anyone know the update on Transit Center....?

Thanks for the link.

The fix engineer, Ron Hamburger, has admitted that his team didn’t guide the contractor they hired, Shimmick Construction, on how to stop the tower from sinking and titling as they drilled and dug into the ground.

This reads like it's some kind of parody. Has it been dubbed the Leaning Tower of Pelosi? Nothing a little Botox can't freeze into position.

The Transit Center had a problem with cracked steel support beams, not the foundation. after repair it opened fully in mid August 2019.

The second phase (Underground) of the Center has not yet been fully funded or started.

Its tilting toward Salesforce tower.

You have to wonder about the sheer weight of a few dozen skyscrapers point loading a seismic hot spot.

P.S., the the common failure with both the Transit Center and the Millennium Tower is the City of San Francisco Building Inspection and Permit.

The cracks in the steel beams in the Transit Center resulted from a skipped step in the installation welding procedure, NOT from the manufacture or quality of steel.

This skipped step (by the construction crew) on the jobsite was repeatedly undetected by SF Building Inspectors.

Hope this clears thing up.
