PULLED IN TWO DIRECTIONS

21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.....23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ... (Philippians 1:21,23)

As Christians, we are pulled in two directions. We all want to go to heaven, but this life also holds great appeal. We are like the youngster in Sunday school who listened intently while the teacher told about the beauties of heaven. She concluded by saying, "Raise your hand if you want to go to heaven." Every hand shot up immediately...except one. "Why don't you want to go to heaven, Johnny?" "Well," he replied, "Mom just baked an apple pie for dinner."

Now, we don't need to feel guilty for having a strong desire to enjoy life. Marriage, a family, a fulfilling job, travel, recreation...these all have a legitimate appeal. But if the delights of our earthly home are so attractive that we lose sight of God's purpose for putting us here, something's wrong.

The apostle Paul had mixed feelings too. Although he believed he would be released from prison, he knew that he could possibly fall victim to Nero's sword. This created a conflict. He longed to be with Christ, for that would be "far better" (Philippians 1:23). He also wanted to live...not merely to enjoy life but because he was needed by his fellow believers (v.24).

Paul was pulled in two directions, and in both cases it was for the highest reason. What about us?

Hey, radu,

The cold hasn’t actually hit us up here yet. Never used to bother me, extremes of hot and cold were just to be dealt with (I didn’t even b!tch about it, just dressed right, and drank a lot...altering between water and Jack Daniel’s), but the past 2-3 years the joints are acting up a bit...like A LOT! Last I counted I’ve racked up 14 broken bones since the age of 13, and recently I’ve started to remember every damned one of them. Cold doesn’t make me happy. Extreme HEAT and HUMIDITY is the worst! Makes ya wanna strip down to yer skin and want to take that off! Just HEAT is fine. Get in the shade and it’s MUCH cooler...except the snakes, and scorpions also know that.

As I’ve always said, “Life is a risk factor.”

I’m ALWAYS ready for Spring...I start pinning for it right after LABOR DAY (when the last sale is over)...and I want it to get here on NEW YEAR’S DAY...I like all the winter holidays, so I don’t want to miss them, but Jan., Feb., and March (except for St. Patty’s Day), can just take a hike! I probably wouldn’t feel that way if I spent that time on a Caribbean Island...just me, my wife, our hammocks, my shotgun, and our GET LOST!!! signs...4, one posted on each of the cardinal points of the compass around our hammocks. You and yer hubby are invited, but ya gotta bring her own hammocks, and shotgun...and Jack Daniel’s (I don’t trust the water down there). ;-)...and only 10 of yer cats!!!

KEEP THE FAITH.

Yes, this cold, WINDY weather certainly won’t help which is why I’ve stayed inside. I did run out to stick the open signs in the ground by the road but I couldn’t find the military flags, which suited me fine. I really didn’t want to be in that wet wind that long. Other than that, I was only out long enough to get in the car to head up there and to head home.

I’d love to go to the Veterans Day parade in Winchester tomorrow but it’s going to be just as ugly and cold. I don’t want to push my luck and backslide.

LOL!!!! We think too much alike. Ready for Spring before Fall really settles in. LOL

Living on a nice, comfy-year-round island is what I dream of. I don’t like cold weather at all and achy joints firing up is one of the reasons. Like you, Hubby has broken several bones over the years and he feels every break nowadays so he’s ready to escape winters as well.
I guess we’d have to find our own little island. Supplying our own hammocks, shotgun, Jack for Hubby (Cokes for me. LOL) is no problem but I’d be awfully hard-pressed to leave 17 of our furbabies behind. :-)

Maybe you’ll get lucky and won’t catch the brunt of this arctic blast. BUT you have more cold ahead than we do over the winter and I feel for ya!

I’m shopping for one on Amazon. I HAVE found a couple of larger ones after searching for a while, and I have them on my shopping list. I’m sure they’ll appreciate having it. Or at least love being warm. I have a small one in a large waterproof barrel that no one seems to use. Of course, they might when I’m not aware. I’m thinking the barrel needs to be moved to a more sheltered location.

Sorry that the rain missed you. I’m surprised at the low temp that the fog didn’t become sleet. Glad it didn’t, since you still had to drive down that mountain.

Good! Glad you managed to find a larger one. Anything to help them stay warm, they will enjoy ..... once they figure out how they work. LOL
Yeah, if the barrel isn’t in a sheltered location, they won’t be as inclined to use it.

It wasn’t as cold yesterday when it was so foggy so there was no concern about it turning to sleet. It was 63 yesterday. I drove through a couple of thick patches of fog this morning but it lifted soon afterwards. It just stayed cloudy all day.

There WAS some wintry weather in the northwestern part of the state this morning. Thank goodness there’s no precipitation anywhere around here tonight because it WOULD be wintry yuck overnight since our low will be in the 20s.

I just listened to that song for the first time. I’m very happy I was single when I served, no girlfriend, no one I was bound to, or was bound to me...except my Mother (Of Blessed Memory). Talk about bound! Nobody is more bound to you than your Mother...of course I was young then, and had the soul and sensitivity of a block of wood...and had not yet had children of my own, so I had no idea of what love was. She stood and waited, as every mother has since time began.

I’m going to send you a private post, probably some time tomorrow, with a funny story about the power of mothers.
Can’t write it for public consumption...later.

There’s nothing to “working” the pads. They radiate the kittys’ heat back to them because of the stuff that is inside them. Some sort of reflective material.

I’ll probably order it after finishing the show I’m watching. Then try to sleep. I already dread that alarm going off in the morning. LOL! See ya tomorrow!

I know how they work. The kitties don’t. They need to try them out so they can learn that sleeping on them keeps them nice and warm. I don’t know how inclined they are to sleeping on a new bedding. Some of our cats will hop onto anything. Others just won’t - - unless it’s a new box. LOL I think all cats love boxes.

Sleep well. Catch ya tomorrow.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Are you and Gizmo sitting in front of the heater to stay warm this early morning? We’re you able to head out to the lake this weekend?

Glad you listened...it’s a good song for those “who sit and wait”. They are so important.

Later...enjoy!

Don’t worry. I’m not about to push my luck at this point, though it pains me. I hate missing the parade and cheering all the vets as they ride by in all kinds of military vehicles.
I just pray none of the older vets get sick in the cold and wind. Without the wind, it wouldn’t be so bad.

We actually had a great visit to Comanche Lake yesterday. It felt a little warm. We had temps in the low 50's.

What’s not to like? I’ll reserve the palm trees to tie your hammocks to. You’ve been up in Alaska so long, we’ll have to get you some sun screen that’s rated @ SPF 1400.

It’s gonna get hairy...literally. Radu, can’t bear to part with any of her 27 cats...on a Caribbean Beach! They’ll think they’ve gone to litter box heaven.

Good evening, E...((HUGS))...and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours. Hope you have better weather for your adventures today.

You and Gizmo have lots of fun...rocks, grass, water, good rolling spots.
