Freedom Caucus Rep. Andy Biggs says 'not so fast' to McCarthy speakership after disappointing election results

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., on Wednesday signaled that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy may hit a few speed bumps on his quest to become the next House speaker, arguing the Republican conference needs to have "a serious discussion" about leadership after Tuesday's disappointing election results.

Republicans underperformed expectations in the midterm elections, and if they take a majority after all the votes are counted, it will be a slim one. Biggs, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, told conservative streaming program "The Absolute Truth with Emerald Robinson" that Republicans should reevaluate whether McCarthy is the best person to be House speaker, saying his leadership should not be "a foregone conclusion."

"I would say maybe not so fast. Maybe we should have a good discussion within the confines of our internal body," Biggs said. "Look, we were told we were going to have an incredible, incredible wave. And if that would've been the case, any 20, 30, 40-seat margin, anywhere in there you would say, okay, Kevin is the presumptive Republican nominee for speaker.

"But I think we need to have a serious discussion," Biggs continued. "He's back peddled on things like impeachment and, in some ways, that indicates a willingness to be weakening the oversight authority that we need to have and the leverage points we need to have in order to deal with a Democrat president." ***

Between Democrats rigging elections and the brainwashing of students (elementary, High school, college), I am surprised that Repubs win at all. The Speaker should NOT be a go along to get along Repub like McCarthy. or Ryan/Boeher. But someone who will stand up to The Swamp.

2010 is interesting. I think that was when they decided they have to really go scorched earth on the cheating. The have the cheating baked in now to the point even a 6-8% lead is not enough. Every minute that passes reduces the chance we are getting the House. If the rats get the House HR1 passes and that is means permanent rat control of both.

I think the lackluster performance of the GOP in elections today can be directly attributed to the failures of the prior GOP midterm "waves" -- notably the 2010 and 2014 election cycles -- to accomplish anything of substance.

Nowhere is this more obvious than the decision to campaign heavily (and raise lots of money) in 2010 and 2014 on a foundational promise to repeal ObamaCare. I truly believe the Republican Party leadership was caught completely off guard after the 2016 election when the party ended up controlled the White House and both houses of Congess ... because they were suddenly in a position where they COULD fulfill campaign promises that they never had any intention of fulfilling.

He always was a Paul Ryan, and a John Boehner. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

At least Sasse left DC to where he could actually do some good.
