Josh Hawley Blasts GOP Leadership for Midterm Showing
Real Clear politics ^ | 11/11/22 | By Philip Wegmann

Two days after Republicans dramatically underperformed in the midterms, but even as control of Congress remains too close to call, Sen. Josh Hawley has completed his autopsy and offered it to his party’s leaders for consideration. The topline: The failure is all their fault.

The Missouri populist believes the Republican Party offered voters plenty in the way of generalized gripes about Democrats and President Biden – but no actionable alternative. Hawley blames that on what he calls “Washington Republicanism,” specifically Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. He also thinks it was a bad idea to talk about making changes to Social Security and Medicare.

“Republicans just said, ‘Well, the other side sucks, and Biden sucks.’ Well, no doubt! But it's pretty hard to convince folks, particularly independent-minded ones who don't tend to trust the process much, to vote for you, if you don't have something affirmative to say and offer,” Hawley said in a Friday interview.

“I lay that at the feet of the Washington establishment that set the tone for these races,” he added. “They failed to offer that kind of vision.”

Has a lot of truth to it. I am against the establishment politicians. I am not their plantation reliable voter that they depend on and then do nothing in return. Stern letters don’t do it for me.

All they did was complain about how bad it is. But did not motivate the voters to go out and vote. That’s how they got a brain dead senator in pennsylvia.

Mitch McConnell sabotaged conservative MAGA candidates and his minions make Trump the fall guy for the results of China Mitch’s treachery. I think they revoke your GOP membership card if you’re not stupid enough to buy this narrative.

it didn’t help that Mitch was talking down R candidates 6 weeks out - or that he did not send any $ Blake Masters way.

"make changes to" is the polite way to put it.

Hawley is a spending bro. He wanted more and more stimulus in 2020, and he doesn't want to cut back entitlements. At least he's consistent on that[when gop spends]. Good luck with all the debt and inflation Mr. Hawley.

Mitch lives in fear of not being invited to all those liberal cocktails, concerts, and miscellaneous parties that he and his wife love to attend.

McConnell and the others deliberately sabotaged this election, and despite their best efforts they still won the house, and maybe even eke out control of the Senate. Their plan was to be defeated and then blame it all on Trump, which they started doing on election night.

Mitch is too old. He’s not compelling, and does not campaign help.

He is 100% correct on this.

I found it nauseating to get endless solicitations from national GOP organizations this election cycle with the same "We'll fight the Biden agenda" nonsense -- even while the GOP has gone out of its way in Washington to give the Democrats all the votes they've needed in the U.S. Senate to get their major bills passed.

Too say nothing of seemingly living in fear of "disappointing" his international backer(s).
