The oldest-serving Tennessee state legislator won her race Tuesday night.
The only problem is the Memphis native died a few weeks prior to Election Day.
Tennessee State Rep. Barbara Ward Cooper served Shelby County District 86 for more than two decades.
Cooper, who represented downtown Memphis, died at 93 years old in October.
Her funeral was held Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral.
Cooper won the state congressional race 73 percent to 27 percent to Republican challenger Michael Porter, according to Fox 13.
Almost 8,000 Memphians voted for a dead person Tuesday.
“Only in Memphis,” national radio host Todd Starnes said.
“With the combined results showing the same result, the seat will be declared vacant and Shelby County Commissioners will appoint a replacement,” the Daily Memphian reports.
Not the first time it has happened.
Louisiana elected a dead governor once.....................
Elected by dead voters
If there was an Republican on the ballot they should win by default!!
And PA elected Fetterman for the US senate.
There was.....................
Derp State’s good with that.
Brain dead. Dead dead. Demented.
Whatever.
If this doesn’t illustrate the willing blindness, the lock step march of idiots, the ugly political machine churning out votes then nothing will.
It’s insensitive to says she’s dead!!!
Dead people prefer to be called “metabolically challenged”.
Until mail in ballots are eliminated, republicans will never win again. As long as republicans can’t be elected, mail in ballots will stick around forever
Just electing somebody to better represent them.
They would rather vote for a dead Democrat rather than a live Republican. This scenario perfectly illustrates the sharp divide currently existing in the United States.
So it wasn’t just PA. I feel better.
More proof that the voters in Shelby County are not informed and vote Democrat. Memphis is a hellhole and corrupt. Memphis keeps the crime under reported and the leaders siphon off money regularly. The ones in charge keep in power by massive race baiting and waving the bloody shirt whenever it is needed. Whites living there are moving away by the thousands. The city is only a short fuse looking for a lighter.
I was raised near there in North Mississippi. I had relatives all over Memphis in the 60’s and 70’s...............
Would that be Catch-2022?
Orlando re-elected its tax collector in 2012, though he had been dead for three weeks.
Why not? They elected s half dead Democrat with a commie illegal alien wife in PA to the Senate
Jamestown, TN, once elected a guy who was in prison. That’s how strong the herd mentality is in Jamestown, TN.
