In a memo to all staff on Thursday, workers were told they would receive a message in their private accounts if sacked.
While those keeping their jobs would receive the news in their work emails.
The email subject is menacingly titled "Your Role at Twitter" and will land in inboxes by 4pm UK time on Friday.
A source told The Sun that "circa 1,000 staff" at the UK offices in London and Manchester are at risk of losing their jobs.
It is unclear how many people Twitter employs in the UK.

It should not be a shock. Elon has been saying this for a long time.
They give two weeks more pay, but they immediately put you out so that you can’t take anything, can’t break anything.
Dunno why workers would sabotage their companies if they’re fired. If it’s a layoff, the company might hire them again in the future if it’s an amicable separation.
I worked for a company that was bought out by another company.
They fired the entire management team, top to bottom, even down to the housekeeping supervisor.......................
