Indeed. If I quit or am fired, I expect to lose all access to anything within hours, if not sooner. With great power comes great responsibility. It also makes you too dangerous to have around. For me, there would be no hard feelings about it, as it's just the way things are. I would never abuse my power, but it wouldn't be prudent for the company to just accept that as a given.

Sometimes that doesn't happen though. I left one job about 15 years ago that I'd been at for quite a while, and had fully expected to be walked out upon announcing my departure. I ended up being insanely busy right doing work on knowledge transfer and handoffs right up until I finally logged off my desktop and walked out two weeks later. What was weird about that, was I'd spent a huge amount of time over the years documenting all of my processes in such a way that a janitor could pick up a manual and do a lot of my tasks.
