Twitter sued over Elon Musk’s plan for mass layoffs

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Twitter over Elon Musk’s plan to sack thousands of staffers, alleging that employees weren’t given enough notice of the mass layoffs in violation of federal and California law.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday in San Francisco federal court after the company notified employees it would eliminate some 3,700 jobs, half its workforce, Bloomberg News reported.

It seeks an order requiring the social media platform to obey the WARN Act — the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, a federal law requiring companies with 100 or more workers to give 60 days’ notice of mass layoffs or other work disruptions.

The suit also wants the court to restrict Twitter from soliciting staffers to sign documents that could give up their right to take part in litigation, according to the news outlet.

Problem is he can lay them off with 60 days no work notice and pay. That carries him through the end of the year.

He needs to clear out the vermin so to minimize damage they can do. He’s handling it right. Those laid off will get severance.

The layoffs to be identified, given their severance pay, and frog marched out of the building before they can do any damage.

Yes.

Lay them off today but pay them for the next 60 days.

I had a vendor in the throws of closing down. The union workers did extensive sabotage during the last 60 day period. The glass in the windows of the shop supervisor were all broken by studs thrown from the shop floor. Many of the panels on my job were 5/16 ‘’ short.

The fact there is such a law is a travesty designed for the specific purpose of union worker revenge

Which they will lose.
Musk is not too worried about lawsuits.
It comes with being the richest man on the planet,
Everyone wants free money from him.

One thing I did not see in the article; is Twitter already paying these people any severance, or just walking them out the door with accrued PTO and time worked up to the date/time the employment was terminated?

Virtually no one goes into their building, so not a big deal. The big deal they’ll see is when they try to log on to Twitter’s internal system today - they’ll find their password not working. LOL!!!!

Sorry to hear that. In tech, it’s easier - just lock them out of their access.

Twitter pays its employees an average of $117,792 a year.

Musk has lawyers, he’ll do it by the book. There may be loopholes in the 60 day law, such as exemptions for highly paid people. I don’t know either way on that.

What is the definition of a layoff? In the heavy union area in which I live, one laid off is subject to return to the job.

It appears in Twitter’s case this is a matter of downsizing.

Elon, has made MANY notices via twitter, months ago, that this was coming. Any sane employee, would have stopped the political nonsense at that time, so that when the day of reckoning arrived, there would be blood on the threshold door and clear evidence, so that the NEW human relations department, would passover.

They are locked out of the building.
They had a plush job. So unrealistic of the real world. I want to know how much the govt gave them to pay for access.
