Holly O’Neil, associate professor of chemistry and interim assistant dean of the College of Arts and Science, is under fire after being accused of practicing cultural appropriation Thursday, Oct. 27.
Cultural appropriation is defined as “the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially without showing that you understand or respect this culture,” according to the Cambridge Dictionary.
During the English Department’s fourth annual Halloween party, O’Neil went dressed as pop star Michael Jackson. She performed a dance to Michael Jackson’s song, “Thriller.” A video of the performance was posted onto Facebook, then quickly deleted.

Was it blacks who complained? If so, they better dump all their clothes, cell phones,cars, guns, etc., and wear what they wear in Africa. Everything they have is western and western culture.

In this global world of ours peoples of mixed cultures, ethnicities and races are intermingling at an increasing rate. I am not sure anyone can really claim they own a culture any more.
Negroes are showing their cultural insensitivity by culturally appropriating Halloween, a holiday that is not theirs.
I think it was upper management. It happened at the same time a camera crew was on campus filming for a virtual tour to be placed on the website, so the timing was impeccable.

Air conditioning, cars, computers, radios, airplanes, electricity, light bulbs, colleges, the internet, telephones, guns, writing, math, science..., the list of things being culturally appropriated from Whitey is endless.
Unless she is also a child molester, it IS actually cultural appropriation to copy the dance style and mannerisms of someone from that rich tradition.

Not only did she appropriate the black culture of someone who appropriated white culture, she also appropriated the male culture of someone who was a homo pedophile, so I guess she appropriated that too.
