Obama Warns ‘Demonizing’ Opponents Leads to Violence as Biden Calls Republicans Threat to Democracy

Former President Barack Obama warned Democrats not to demonize their political opponents Wednesday even as President Joe Biden delivered a speech attacking “MAGA Republicans” and tying them to last week’s assault on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband.

Obama told a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, that demonizing opponents with “over-the-top” rhetoric could result in physical violence:

“One thing is clear, and that is this increasing habit of demonizing political opponents, of just yelling and thinking not just that I disagree with someone, but that they’re evil and wrong,” Obama said. “That creates a dangerous climate. And when we have politicians and elected officials in leadership positions who continue to promote over-the-top rhetoric or make light of it … more people are going to get hurt.”

Obama did not specifically mention Biden, his former vice president. Biden gave a speech at Union Station in which he reprised some of his attacks from his Sep. 1 speech at Independence Hall, casting Republicans as extremist and dangerous to democracy:

You watch Nov. 9th the urban Zulus, pink haired grad student and other associated mentally ill, along with most of the Democratic party will be rioting, because it's not politically violent to support 9th month abortions and overt oppression of political enemies. Throw in the DOJ and other party apparatuses will be deployed to question elections, crush dissent and just outright refuse to accept the election pending a UN audit. We may have to have a military coup to remove Biden when he ignores Congress and the Courts. I could see that, him bunkered down SS pointing guns at our military.

If Obama lived in Germany in the 1930’s would he have thought it wrong to consider the Nazis evil, and “demonize” them for their genocidal and totalitarian deeds? Were abolitionists wrong to demonize slave-holders in the 1850s? How about critics of racist lynch-mobs in the 1940s and 50s?

Sorry Barry, but humans have a right, nay, a duty, to stand up against what they honestly perceive as evil, and a duty to know what is and what isn’t.
Are there negative effects from that sometimes? Yes.
Are the negative effects worse than letting evil triumph? No.

The left is now outright calling all GOPs fascists and a threat to democracy. I frequent L leaning blogs, Take Im G u R for example. They are setting the stage for outright violence against the R. The rhetoric on that site in particular has references to guillotines, mass violence, etc.
And the lack of self awareness that they have in terms of actually acting like fascists but pointing the finger at others is astonishing
