Orbán: We dug a hole for the Russians, but ended up falling into it ourselves

Hungary is able to secure gas supplies for itself, "unlike the westerners", Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told Kossuth Radio on Friday. "We're more adept at getting gas on our own than if we were to wait for others," the prime minister said in an interview, explaining why Hungary was opting out of joint European Union purchases of gas. Hungary would only lose out on such a programme, so it supports voluntary participation, he added.

Orbán also criticised the EU’s solidarity mechanism aimed at avoiding sharp disparities of gas supply across the bloc. Hungary rejects the idea of a mandatory mechanism as this would mean that after securing enough gas to cover its annual consumption, the country would have to turn over its supplies to countries that do not have enough gas owing to the sanctions imposed on Russia.

There is a “temporary lull” in the growth of gas prices, after European reserves have been refilled over the summer, Orbán said. Prices are expected to grow again as EU countries start to use their reserves in the winter, he said.

Hungary doesn’t have vast energy resources. They have some lignite coal and some hydroelectric. For the most part they import electricity and gas.

Really Orban doesn’t have a choice in this matter.

My daughter is a citizen of Hungary and we have been there often.

Interesting that the article mentions that the price of Russian gas is tied to the European Stock Market.

I just returned this week. Been there a couple of weeks.

Last Sunday the riots/protest against inflation were pretty big in Budapest. Mainly teachers and government workers protested.

And I wonder why. Bunch of spoiled crybabies who want to live off the taxpayers without ever actually working for a living.

To get Hungarians to riot says a lot.

A friend whose daughter is in university in Budapest told me the people are terrified about what will happen to the economy.

Hope you enjoyed the trip. I do have a funny story from Buda castle.

I took the last parking space there, there was some sign in front but I don’t read Hungarian.

Just as I was walking away a policeman came up to me and said I had to move the car. It was the President’s parking spot.

Orban is doing a pretty good job at staying neutral when he is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

He might be pissed if you took his parking place! LOL

But it’s better than walking up the hill. I usually take the bus.

Realist, yeah, “ the West dug a hole for Russia and fell into it”, exactly, how true….and the West keeps digging….why is the West so intent on committing suicide?

Senile Joe’s destruction explains much.

The only good thing about Hungary’s prime minister Orban is that he defends Europe against islamic invasion via miles long barriers protecting the country’s borders. He has center right policies that are ok.

However... just like Angela Merkel in Germany he trapped himself with the 100% energy dependence to Russian oil and gas. As such he can be easily blackmailed by the Kremlin to do what Moscow wants. He is not a free man, his hands are tied.

“Orban, acting in Hungarian best interests.”

Hopefully our NGOs (with CIA help) can throw him out LONG BEFORE he does anything to benefit Hungary.

The purpose of the Europe, at this point, is to BENEFIT the United States, which is why we supported the destruction of their pipeline to Russia and are causing the Europeans to freeze this winter...while selling them the little gas we can at 4 times they were paying (from Russia).

Were they protesting due to the high prices or that they felt they needed a raise like they do in the States?

Horse manure.

It's the US Prog Socialist Democrats and Deep Swamp that are untrustworthy, and no one can make Energy Resourses magically appear in Hungary, not even Orban.

Orban made the wise choice as the EU slides into the GloboHomoNazi craphole.

Wrong. Most western countries are now buying their energy from the USA and Norway. Hungary could do the same, easily. But it has chosen not to.
Western Europe are buying from their American ally. Thats good and fair for America right?

Orban however, while getting billions of subsidies from the EU, from hardworking tax paying europeans, is only concerned to please the neo soviets in Moscow buy exclusively buying their oil.
