Pundits stunned by ‘painful’ Fetterman performance in Pa. Senate debate
NY Post ^ | October 26, 2022 | By Patrick Reilly

Longtime political observers were shocked by Democrat John Fetterman’s display in Tuesday night’s Senate debate against Dr. Mehmet Oz, in which the Pennsylvania lieutenant governor repeatedly stumbled over his words — and lapsed into incoherence on more than one occasion.

At one point the tattooed 53-year-old said, “I do not believe in supporting the Supreme Court” in response to a question about whether the high court should have its traditional nine justices.

In another awkward moment, Fetterman gave a jumbled answer following a long pause after he was asked about his stance on fracking.

“I do support fracking and — I don’t, I don’t, I support fracking and I stand and I do support fracking,” he managed to say after the moderator pointed out Fetterman had stated clearly in a 2018 interview that he did not support the controversial procedure.

After the debate, Democrats and journalists were left to pick up the pieces.

“It’s not his fault, but Lt. Gov. Fetterman struggled,” NewsNation host Chris Cuomo said off the top of his post-debate show. “And again, I’m not faulting him for it, I don’t think his preparation was great, but he clearly is dealing with health issues.”

“I spoke to Fetterman recently, and I expected him to be very bad tonight,” tweeted Charlotte Alter of Time magazine. “But he was much much worse than I expected (and much worse than in our one-on-one conversation.)”

If a Republican babbled like this the mass media would have been vicious and merciless.

President Trump walked carefully on a wet ramp and the media wanted to use the 25th Amendment to push him out of office.

President Trump drank a glass of water in a way the media found odd, so they wanted to use the 25th Amendment to push him out of office.

Yet 10s or 100s of thousands will still vote for him. The far left will vote for a fence post before they will support aeven a moderate Republican. Hate has no boundaries.

I have mentioned this before. Fetterman’s TV ads are very well done. His handlers are doing good job there. So I am amazed they would let him participate in a debate.

Those folks must have done a test run, and saw what a train wreck a debate would be. Better to decline, and come up with some excuse. Then ride out the mild criticism from the lapdog media.

I think if most people replaced Fetterman on that stage with their 8 year old child, the child would be more comprehensible and outshined that big goon. He really came across as a first grade kid.

Just the kind of easily manipulated puppet the Marxists want and need in office.

If Fetterman wins, hold that one up as dispositive proof that mail in voting is cheating.

Don’t care that Oz sucks. He is coherent and, at least, can give the people representation that they deserve.

I still wonder what the Dem machine in PA got, by having this guy elected as Lieutenant Governor? He wasn’t a genius before the stroke.

And it’s not like he was some Rhodes scholar with a diploma that they could hide behind (Hi’ya Bill!).

In Texas, the Lieutenant Governor controls major parts of the agenda, and can often be more “powerful” than the governor.

I suspect that in PA it is not that way ...

But they will still vote for him. Uncle Festerman is still capable of voting the way Chuck Schumer tells him. That’s all that matters.

“If a Republican babbled like this.. “

Instead the “MSM” has extracted small sound bites and us running them to make Shrek sound lucent and reasoned. It’s disgusting propaganda.

“Those folks must have done a test run, and saw what a train wreck a debate would be. Better to decline, and come up with some excuse.”

Agreed.

The standard leftist mass media tactics would have worked reasonably well:

“My opponent is a crazy right-wing extremist and I will not give him the platform for his dangerous hateful propaganda...”

What is painful is that Fetterman still has a slight lead in the polls. Hopefully this debate changes that.
