A Republican running for a seat in the Arizona Legislature is facing criticism after two pictures that appeared to show her in blackface and brownface surfaced with just a few weeks to go before the midterm elections.
The two photographs released on social media are believed to show Mary Ann Mendoza, a Republican, dressed in an "Aunt Jemima" costume with blackface and dressed as the Native American figure Pocahontas with her face painted brown.
The Washington Examiner has not been able to verify the photos independently, but Mendoza's political opponents have already used them to paint Mendoza as a racist.
Democratic candidate Lorena Austin said in a statement that the "hate-filled" pictures should disqualify Mendoza from running.
"Frankly, it's racist rhetoric that is very harmful to communities that reside right here in Mesa," she said.

2 WORDS…….Northram, Trudeau………fine for me but NOT for thee HYPOCRITES!!
Flingwingflyer: “If Americans had any sense, we’d be doing the same thing the commie RATS are doing.”
It’s a tempting idea, but anything negative about Democrats will be buried, true or not. That’s the reality we are dealing with.
“Totally Debunked”
“Extreme right wing”
“Unsubstantiated”
And on…
Frankly, Northam in blackface or a KKK costume doesn’t matter to me and shouldn’t matter to anyone else. The issue isn’t his choice of costumes. The issue is the blatant hypocrisy of the progressive left.
Yep. I get those two confused. It was the black and white one. I have both on DVD.
I went to a Halloween party and a couple came as Aunt Jemima and Abe Lincoln. They won the contest. This was in the 80’s.
Was she 10? On Halloween? For anyone 50 or older these were pretty much standard costumes. Now it's apparently a crime.
Geez. Every REPUBLICAN. Wrong. EVERY DEMONRAT
In the first place, the old saying, “imitation is the best form of flattery” still works for me.
Second, we have the right to ‘identify as’ in today’s crazy world.
October Surprise / Partisan Media Shills and Stooges on parade.
Lorena Austin, whoever the hell she/he/it is, says that these pictures should prevent Mendoza from running. WHY? “Blackface photos of DemocRATS never stopped them from running! Ask Gov. Northam from Virginia.
That’s nothing. There are actual people in government who are one sex but believe, dress, and act like they are another while claiming there are more than 2 genders/sexes.
That’s really insane!
Since then, the left has re-assassinated MLK.
Excuse me. Massa Northam was wearing the hood.
The Dem gubernatorial candidate, Hobbs, supported a slave auction in high school as a freshman. Perhaps, she would auction off this Republican Aunt Jemimah, if she is elected to the legislature.
“If Americans had any sense, we’d be doing the same thing the commie RATS are doing. Start using our phones and the internet searching for any snippet of a scandal for EVERY REPUBLICAN running for office. Even if untrue. Just something to smear our RAT political enemies with. It doesn’t need to be true. Just titillating enough to get the “media” excited enough to have an orgasm.”
Except the media ignores anything that hurts Democrats. If they have to report something, it is watered down, obfuscated and reported once.
“Pictures appear to show”
Appear to show???????
Either they do or don’t. This appear to seem like another Democratic character assassination.
Beautiful!
I’m amazed that today people think white men and women can’t look up to heroes from other races and want to emulate them. In 1969 in my seventh grade history class overseas at a DOD school, we were tasked to research and present a profile of a historic person we’d admired. I dressed up like Harriet Tubman because I admired Ms. Tubman and her life-saving work. I’m sure I darkened my skin because we know from history that she wasn’t white. None of my black, Hawaiian, or other non-Caucasian classmates thought nor said anything about my presentation. I didn’t even know racism existed until years later when a relative wouldn’t allow us to watch “The Mod Squad” and “Julia” on his TV, so we went across the street to his daughter’s to watch. We thought it was the stupidest thing we ever heard.
To us kids, a person was either a jerk (because they treated people badly) or not a jerk (because they treated people well). We never saw a person’s color when making this determination, only their actions. Nothing has changed for me in the next 53 years. I often wonder if most people calling others racist aren’t the ones projecting their hurtful thoughts onto others. I pray to God that this country finds its way. I hope that the reason things have gotten so bad is to wake people so we all start working together to make things better for all of us. Hopefully the upcoming election will bear this out.
Just identify as a negro, problem solved
