Steve Bannon called this last week saying she will be out next week (now).
I’ve really developed a lot of respect for Bannon’s keen insight into politics but I didn’t know they extended into British politics until now.
Tony Blair LEFT WING of the “Conservative Party” takes over. Brexit will never happen. Lefties keep on counting till they win. A show new vote referendum right around the corner.
“Also she’s the one who said she’d have no British White men in her cabinet. That’s all I needed to know about her.”
Not true. She had British white males in her Cabinet.
QEII was not the “Great Leader” most wanted her to be.
Her deeds are not matching her PR.
The world is going to hell in a hurry.
The UK has paper cash, natural resources that have already been used up, and more than twice the number of people that its agriculture can feed.
During Thatcher, it abandoned Midlands manufacturing to focus its economy on financial services delivered from the London metro area. But without EU membership, that is in shambles, except for money laundering for third-world potentates. Even that had been hit by sanctions on oligarchs.
Too bad she went wobbly. Oh well, better now than later.
That’s a stretch.
>>Not true. She had British white males in her Cabinet.
It was the half dozen most senior Cabinet members that were not white males.
Truss' fatal mistake was to have a budget that cut taxes.
The NHS is a terminal disease.
Yes, it does strike again.
Moving faster than COVID at a rock concert!
Hey Liz, how are those sanctions and billions you pissed away with Ukraine working out for you now??
Who's next?
Bold and courageous...
You need lots of land and natural resources to support farming and manufacturing.
The UK lost those sectors when they abandoned their empire.
Wow! in the world of politics, it was a nanosecond!
Certainly, we do better when tax cuts increase revenues (yes, it worked that way in the past), and spending increased slightly slower, but there still was deficit spending and lots of it. We are paying for that now, and until deficit spending stops and we start paying down the debt we won’t have a decent economy where all Americans prosper.
Cutting government spending in real terms must occur for a couple of decades to restore some fiscal sanity. Tax cuts can occur in several years, after inflation is eliminated. The tool for immediate economic stimulus are cuts in regulations. That goes hand-in-hand with cutting government spending. The spending that should be on the chopping block first is to regulatory agencies. That will upset the leftists, but people will not miss it. They will see an improved economy and their bank accounts grow. The difficult part of spending cuts is to benefit programs, where people actually see money from government. That needs to happen, along with massive cuts to the military. We need to stop being the world’s cop and those cuts will never be missed. We can be stronger simply by focusing on true national interests of the first degree.
Beat John Paul I by 11 days.
She was wishy washy without firm conviction.
She billed herself to the public as a Margaret Thatcher, but the mess she’s made of the British economy, which includes a cave-in on a proposed tax cut, is pretty much the opposite of What Thatcher Would Do.
Monica Showalter of the American Thinker made this observation 2 weeks ago:
Her initial plan called for eliminating the U.K.’s highest tax bracket, resulting in a major cut for citizens making more than $168,000 annually. Truss and her government stood against criticism of the plan for weeks, arguing that it would create economic growth amid fears of a recession.
She nevertheless backed down on the plan with a tweet in just a week!
“We get it and we have listened,” she wrote. “The abolition of the 45pc rate had become a distraction from our mission to get Britain moving. Our focus now is on building a high growth economy that funds world-class public services, boosts wages, and creates opportunities across the country.”
Get what? What on earth is she talking about? Can you imagine Lady Thatcher telling the rabid leftists as she caved to their demands something like: “We get it”?
The whole thing pretty much stinks any way you look at it. A planned elimination of the 45% tax bracket for people making the U.S. equivalent of $168,000 a year or more is hardly a tax cut for “the rich,” it’s a badly needed tax cut on the private sector to ensure the creation of small businesses and the jobs that go with it as the COVID-hangover recession approaches. Truss wasn’t up to fighting for that as the left hollered about it.
But it also wasn’t a terribly good plan. A good tax break plan ought to affect the entire population, not just the upper middle class segment. Throwing it out there and then letting the left yell about tax cuts for the rich is Doing It Wrong. What horrible planning these people have initiated.
It gets worse. The left also is yelling about the Truss budget’s plan to increase borrowing. Truss, it seems, wants to spend more government money for “infrastructure” and will need to borrow to do it. That’s pure Joe Biden, and with the U.K. battling scary high inflation already, it’s time to cut the size of government immediately and throw some ice on the overheated government money-printing presses.
Truss, in other words, is willing to throw out the tax cut, but not willing to throw out the government spending plans. What’s wrong with this picture?
When I said she was a disaster a few days ago several posters here denied it and said she was fine.
I wonder if they will step forward and say they were wrong.
That and Thatcher and the British Unions were completely irreconcilably opposed to each other. Both made bad choices which led to manufacturing loss to keep the other from gaining advantage.
Did you know Thatcher was indirectly responsible for the rise of the Global Warming Cult?
