Marijuana use is becoming a new normal among young adults
The Hill ^ | Oct. 18, 2022 | Daniel de Visé

Cannabis users soon may be a majority among young adults in the District of Columbia and several pot-friendly states, a trend that points to a potential future of destigmatized marijuana across much of the nation.

More than two-fifths of young men and women nationwide now use cannabis at least on occasion, according to federal data, a quotient that has risen steadily in a decade of relentless legalization. Much of the trend is driven by young women, who have all but closed a decades-long gender gap in marijuana use.

I am more concerned that parents keep taking their kids to doctors to get them on narcotic speed, or better yet, something that can give them balance in their un balanced heads,, of which there is no measure, i think the only thing that can me measured is the absence of sense in the minds of the parents these days

Pot is a relatively benign drug compared to alcohol, cocaine/crack, heroin/fentanyl, etc.

The difference between a $5 dollar bottle of wine and a $500 bottle is taste, not strength. Alcohol can be enjoyed without getting inebriated. The only reason to use marijuana is to get high. The alcohol/drugs comparison used to justify drug use is false.

The Mexican weed that casual users smoked in the 70s is nothing like the stuff that is available now:

Keeping them stoned and stupid is a recipe for the Democrat’s victory year in and year out.

This is the very picture of moving goalposts. Can you imagine ANYONE, including Democrats, advocating for legal recreational marijuana in any state in America 20 years ago? (Not including the diehard stoners?)

I hate drugs. And druggies.

But I fear the police and surveillance state more than drug addicts.

I can handle zombies. Even a horde of them.

A SWAT team because I am pro-life? Not so much.

Agreed, but I hope you donned your flame suit before posting. There are a lot of pothead FReepers.

I don't care. I'll take them on. This stupidity is killing people.

Well that’s just great. A generation of mush headed zombies who are too addled and stupified to hold down a serious job. On top of that, they can’t they pass drug testing that’s required in a whole slew of occupations.

We can add to that the long term physical and psychoactive effects of chronic use/abuse.

Seems like marijuana usage by youths has always been a thing.

The stuff smoked in the 70s is nothing like the stuff that is available now. High THC concentrated products are resulting in addition and psycosis.

In some ways but the THC level is through the roof now. It's turning people psychotic, maybe not addictive like some drugs the the results can be even worse.

“The stupid idea that pot is “harmless and non-addictive” was a lie.
But what do you expect from a bunch of potheads rationalizing their pot use?”

None of the prescription drugs’ you take are harmless, parents should be up in arms at the rate their kids have been given speed or whatever they put in anti-depressants, sadly, a lot of parents are on them so it is what it is,, Pot as opposed to prescriptions,, not a tough one to decide on for me, it took me 10 years to get off the drugs the schools put me on in 87,,, i am now surrounded by a culture whose all hopped up on them now, its a sad battle to watch as it takes the life of loved ones all around us.

But when I was in high school, it was considered "rebellion". Now it's celebrated.

...they can’t they pass drug testing that’s required in a whole slew of occupations.

Will that even be allowed in this new, drug-addled society?

I've seen the standards lowered precipitously in law enforcement in 20 years. Where I worked, a history of smoking pot, even once or casually, would knock you out as a candidate. Now, it is shrugged off, as long as you don't do it any longer.

It's a function of demand. As more people participate in a formerly-illegal activity, your applicant pool decreases. Something has to give.
