Virginia parents with differing viewpoints sounded off on school policies they say harmed children at Tuesday's Loudoun County Public Schools board meeting.
One year ago, LCPS passed Policy 8040 to follow Virginia Department of Education guidelines put forth by the previous Democratic administration to protect transgender students. It requires employees to address students by their chosen "name and gender pronouns" and gives students access to the bathrooms, locker rooms and sports teams that match their gender identity. The decision sparked a backlash among parents, particularly because it did not require parents to be notified or approve of changes made to their child's gender identity.
Several parents came to the meeting Tuesday to demand schools comply with new guidelines released last month by Gov. Glenn Youngkin, R., which says parents must sign off on changes to their child's gender identity and assures accommodations will be made. It also separates sports by biological sex.
"I implore you to adopt Gov. Youngkin's new Model Policy in place of existing Policy 8040. The fact that parents have to advocate and fight for their parental right is absolutely absurd," Michelle Warner, a mother of two Loudoun County students told the board......
Brenda Bengston, who taught in the Loudoun County Public School district for 31 years, said the parent movement was "all political" and had become a "training ground" for attracting media attention.
She defended the transgender policy to Fox News Digital, saying teachers had the students' best interest at heart. "We need to be interested in our students and not what we have as a bias, to bring it in with us," she said. The former teacher said her role was to "welcome" students, not question them.

Sounds like they only care about the weirdos. Normal children don’t matter.
Public schools have forgotten that they are just an arm of the government. They answer to us but don’t understand this. It’s partly our fault for being so disengaged. It’s gone on so long that they actually believe the government tells the people what will be done in spite of the wishes of “we the people”.
Always say “GOVERNMENT school” not “Public school”. They provide “GOVERNMENT education” and politics is too tempting for them - it should be abolished if there’s no representation of WE THE PEOPLE that fund them.
So glad my kid is out of schools here in LOCO. It wasn’t like this even five years ago.
Who puts these people on the school boards to begin with?
Has there not been an election to change out some of these school board members?
“It’s a school where a student who passed three classes in four years, ranks near the top half of his class with a 0.13 grade point average.”
I read the story.
Baby mama with three kids, oldest supposedly a HS senior until he gets put back to the 9th grade because he’s failed all his classes.
Baby mama ain’t happy one bit!
Her pride and joy didn’t DESERVE to be put back!
I do agree that the school shouldn’t have passed him along in the classes he failed. But, the responsibility of knowing whether Pride and Joy is passing or not sits squarely on the shoulders of the parents.
Court rejects Loudoun Public Schools's bid to shut down grand jury investigation"A Virginia judge has rejected a petition by the Loudoun County School Board that sought to shut down a special grand jury investigation by Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares into the board's handling of sexual assaults.
On Monday, a Loudoun Circuit Court judge denied the school board's request for an injunction that would have halted the attorney general's investigation into the school board's handling of a sexual assault committed by a male (tranny) student last year, 7News reported . The (Loudoun) district sued to block the investigation in May after initially vowing to cooperate.
Miyares, who took office in January, had pledged on the campaign trail to investigate the district, which had been accused of covering up a May 2021 assault in the girls' bathroom of Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn, Virginia.
The board had allowed the student to attend a different district high school the following school year, where he committed a second assault. He was sentenced to a residential mental health program in January."
I thought they voted these bozos out. Why are they still in office in Loudoun.
Indeed eliminate the department of education and let the states decide.
Catholic Schools are getting bad, still not as bad as government indoctrination centers, but they are getting bad. Homeschool is the choice, if not homeschool, private day school (non religious or religious), but we need to fight and get elected to the school board.
The silent civil war needs to be a great migration. Take your families and businesses out of that environment. It’s not enough to move out of the city, leave the blue states.
