My guess is that most Freepers are retired and receiving Social Security payments. Many Freepers are also disabled veterans who receive a monthly award payment. The COLA percentage increase for Social Security will apply to their VA checks as well.
Characterizing this as a Biden issue is improper. Sure he will try and claim credit for those that look at it as person-driven but this is all set up automatically.
I think seniors that have SS payments as a majority in their retirement income are getting hosed on inflation, I know I am. I would be angered if the established rules changed while I was a user. If the rules changed for users 15 years in the future,, on a gradual basis, so it could be planned for by those impacted, I would be less opposed.

The real inflation rate is around 17% and they are complaining that they might give a 9% raise in SS next year. Probably will be much less then 9%.

Social Security COLA is calculated based on a formula set by law. Neither Biden or any other president could change it if they wanted to.
it's a vicious cycle, but social security recipients receive raises ONLY AFTER INFLATION HAS ALREADY BEEN RAGING. Any rise they MAY receive is only a very small drop in the bucket. If you want to slow down or stop inflation, you have to tackle the socialists give-away programs first.
Does not seem right that the % increase in SNAP payments will be higher that the social security % increase.
I’m on social security and it sure doesn’t feel like I’ve been pandered too. I worked for 47 years so just maybe I should get something back. And, since Biden’s policies have erased about 20% of my investments.
Seriously, why are people on Freerepublic complaining that Social Security is tied to the inflation rate? Do you want Social Security recipients to fall behind? Do you want the Democrats to be able to honestly say the GOP favors cutting Social Security? (Not keeping pace with inflation would be a cut)
Unfortunately, Republicans like Lindsey Graham really are calling for Social Security cuts. But many of them at the same time want MORE money for Ukraine.
And they also want their own federal pensions to keep pace with inflation. Please, don’t be sheeple for Lindsey Graham Republicans and the Koch-funded libertarian think tanks that give them cover by putting out white papers against Social Security
The political class has a secure retirement. Don’t let them deny you one by cutting your Social Security while helicopteringvdollars onto Ukraine.

This is the problem with the Administrative State. The president and executive bureaucracy can do things like this. Its driving the country into third world status so the Dems can try to win re-election.

I take it that Xiden is claiming credit for something that is built in the Social Security legislation. Xiden didn’t wake up one day and decide to add 8% to social security checks.

Biden has little to do with the COLAs. They are written into law and determined by SSA, not Biden.
Bid DOES have much to do with inflation, which does cause the COLAs to increase, however.
These broad-brush accusations for political reasons get silly after a while.
