Democratic senator says 'there's got to be consequences' for Saudi Arabia after OPEC+ announces oil production cuts

A Democratic member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said Sunday that "there's got to be consequences" after Saudi Arabia and a cartel of major oil producers moved to slash oil production last week in a move the White House said was "shortsighted" and hurtful to low and middle-income countries.

"There's got to be consequences for that. Whether it's lifting the cartel's immunity or whether it's rethinking our troop presence there, our security relationship, I just think it's time to admit that the Saudis are not looking out for us," Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union," referring to the US' military presence in the Middle East.

"For years we have looked the other way as Saudi Arabia has chopped up journalists, has engaged in massive political repression, for one reason: we wanted to know that when the chips were down, when there was a global crisis, that the Saudis would choose us instead of Russia," the senator said. "Well, they didn't. They chose Russia.

"Last week, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies, led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, said that it will slash oil production by 2 million barrels per day, the biggest cut since the start of the pandemic, in a move that threatens to push gasoline prices higher just weeks before US midterm elections. The group announced the production cut following its first meeting in person since March 2020. The reduction is equivalent to about 2% of global oil demand.

The Biden administration criticized the decision in a statement, calling it "shortsighted" and saying that it's harmful to some countries already struggling with elevated energy prices the most.

So when Saudi slashes production it’s a travesty, but when Biden slashes production it’s great.

I see.

Connecticut senator: "I just think it's time to admit that the Saudis Biden administration and our own Federal government are not looking out for us."

Fixed it.

(D) Senator Chris Murphy voted to remove Pres.i Trump from office -Trump’s “malfeasance” was destroying our democracy, Murphy said. Additionally saying "Ukraine had been turned into a political weapon by Trump and his GOP enablers"....

Then the guy says..“President Trump’s obsession with beefing up military coffers left the country more exposed to nonmilitary threats, including pandemics.”..... More money should go to diplomats, not the military".

This is pretty funny if it wasn't actually pretty damn serious and pathetic. When Trump was President we were exporting energy. Now we beg, plead and threaten.

Democrats were talking about how we are in an “exciting” time as we abandon fossil fuels and go back to cutting down forests for firewood to avoid freezing to death.

They wanted Americans back in the Dark Ages and we are headed there.

Saudi Arabia is just helping us more quickly usher in the Final “Green” Solution. Unfortunately, fresh “green” firewood doesn’t burn.

This is freakin unbelievable. The rats want to punish SA for cutting back their oil production after they crippled ours because it hurts their chances to keep Congress. just wow.

What could we do that would hurt Saudi Arabia and Russia both?

Increase domestic production - and US exports.

from : https://www.murphy.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/murphy-calls-for-a-swift-return-to-a-nuclear-agreement-with-iran-on-us-senate-floor

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near East, South Asia, Central Asia and Counterterrorism, on Tuesday took to the U.S. Senate floor to make the case for why the Biden administration needs to get back into a nuclear agreement with Iran. Murphy laid out the consequences of President Trump’s failed Iran policy after pulling out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and he argued returning to the deal would make the world safer but time is of the essence.

Cheap Saudi oil or a worthless agreement with the Ayatollah, you don't get both, at least not the way Senator Murphy is trying to play it.

“There will be consequences — midterms.”

I wonder. The Democrats do not seem too worried. I suspect they know something.
The same something, some of us are very worried about.

O’Biden does not have a favorable relationship with the Sauds.......he’s all in with Iran. Another indicator Obama is at the helm.

Senator Murphy continued, “We can’t let them get away with cutting production to spite us! It is time for real repercussions for these people. We need to send our Air force over to Saudi Arabia and bomb their oil industry back into the stone age. That will teach them not to disrespect us.”

Why aren’t they celebrating OPEC’s decision to be more environmentally conscious? /s

That’s an interesting point...

'Cause there's a national election in just 30 days, and they know that the Greta Thunberg strategy isn't gonna fly.

“..”there’s got to be consequences” after Saudi Arabia and a cartel of major oil producers moved to slash oil production last week ..”

there’s got to be consequences after Biden in collusion with his Obama henchmen slashed oil production in the US two years ago.
