Elon Musk Says Taiwan Should Become ‘Special Administrative Zone’ Under China
The Epoch Times ^ | October 8, 2022 | Tom Ozimek

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has sparked a flurry of critical reactions after telling the Financial Times that he thinks conflict over Taiwan is inevitable and the self-governed island should become a “special administrative region” under Beijing’s control, like Hong Kong but “more lenient.”

Musk made the remarks in a Financial Times interview published on Oct. 7, after being asked about China, where Tesla manufactures as much as half of its total output.

If an open conflict over Taiwan were to break out, which Musk said he thinks is bound to happen, then Tesla would get caught up in it, he said. Apparently wishing to avoid business interruptions, Musk then expressed his eyebrow-raising take on the fate of the island, which Beijing has long vowed to gain control over, by force if necessary.

“My recommendation … would be to figure out a special administrative zone for Taiwan that is reasonably palatable, probably won’t make everyone happy,” Musk is quoted as saying.

He said he believes it’s possible or even probable “that they could have an arrangement that’s more lenient than Hong Kong.”

When the former British colony was returned to China over two decades ago, Beijing vowed to preserve Hong Kong’s capitalist system for 50 years and so allow residents to enjoy many freedoms that Mainland Chinese cannot. But China’s communist rulers have, in recent years, taken increasingly hardline measures to hamstring Hong Kong’s political system and stifle dissent.

Make of it what you will, but it doesn't speak well for his pending takeover of Twitter. China will still be exercising immense power to censor commentary.

I think Elon is a great engineer. However he works 80 hour weeks and has done so for years. He goes a little weird with anything not engineering.

Elon Musk is starting to come across to me as another Ross Perot. Talks a lot but doesn’t say anything nor stand for anything. I don’t trust this guy.

He doesn’t understand geopolitics. For the same reason why HK was promised one deal and got another, no such deal with Taiwan is possible.

Good question. Bill Gates and Elon Musk have both proved that you can be very rich and also say very unintelligent things.

China will still be exercising immense power to censor commentary.

Like the Biden regime does in America?
Same Biden regime that created a “Disinformation Board” within DHS and attempted to head it with about the craziest, most deranged female ever born in America?

Better idea: Make Hong Kong a “special administrative zone” of Taiwan.

Musk needs China. Without China, Tesla will have a tough time. He only praises China.

What communist China has bending to ‘Special Administrative Zone’ Hong Kong proves that they cannot be trusted with a ‘Special Administrative Zone’ Taiwan!!!!

Musk is no Perot.
And Musk is coming up with plenty of good ideas.
China will inevitably try to take over Taiwan as China keeps getting even more powerful by leaps and bounds, sooner or later. What d you propose to do about it outside of a nasty , vicious, long war?

Unless we are willing to stop purchasing Chinese products and propping up their communist regime, and we need to simply step away from Taiwan, not our concern. Otherwise, we need to be prepared, and long overdue, to simply stop buying Chinese products. Can we do that or will we be fighting China directly or indirectly at the same time we’re buying products that pay for that regime to fight and kill Americans? Already, with coronavirus, they have killed Americans, and we keep buying their products. Already, they’re killing us with fentanyl and we still buy their products. At what point to say stop?

If Taiwan gives an inch, they’ll be completely gobbled up by China within a few years max, and they know it.

Ut oh. Musk doesn’t understand Red China but he is giving advice about trusting Red China.

He needs to read a book or something before speaking.

When Musk gives an opinion...it is usually to raise someone's ire...Kinda following in the footsteps of President Trump.

Frankly, I think he's trying to make himself a "problem" for Biden.

And feuding between Musk and Trump...well, they know what they're doing....and likely doing it with a smile.
