A third of the German Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers used by the Ukrainian army are already in need of maintenance and are to be sent for repair in Slovakia, German newspaper Spiegel reports, citing its own sources.
According to the publication, from the very beginning, the Ukrainian military tried to fire special ammunition at too great a distance.

Not an artillery guy but don’t understand how trying to shoot “too far” could cause an issue. Unless there is some sort of incremental charges than can be abused.
FME transmission, drive train and hydraulics are the big 3 for tracked vehicles. Wonder if they were supplied with spare fluids to take into the field. But 1/3rd going to depot isn’t that bad for two months of tactical use.
Actually, the ability to send those guns to NATO countries for repair/refitting/tube change-out is another major logistical advantage for Ukraine. Ukrainian logistics are backed by the largest economic/industrial alliance in the world. Russia is more or less in its own.

The old M114 pigs, right? They were still being used when I was in Okinawa in the mid-80’s, although they were replaced by M198’s when I was still there. Big improvement, and the new M777’s are really nice. They actually use a curved ramming staff so you can ram when firing higher elevations without lowering the tube first.
That's exactly it. There are different powder charges depending on the ranges you're firing (obviously with some overlap. And there's a big difference between higher charges and lower charges in terms of tube wear.
I’m reminded of a scene in “All Quiet on the Western Front” where Katz tells his boys to watch out for short rounds from friendly fire, because all the German guns had their barrels shot out years before, and their accuracy was garbage.

One reason is they have been given too few tubes.
They need way more guns than they’ve got to shoot as much as they need to.

Reading between the lines; they are using experimental projectiles supplied by “someone else” with extended range capabilities not designed for those tubes that is causing pre-mature wear and tear. I don’t know what the MBTF (mean time between failure) on those tubes is based on this level of use anyway, but that would be a nice data point to know this is really even noteworthy.
I don't have any specific knowledge other than what I've gleaned in reading about the breakdown rates in armored vehicles in offensives (and it's statistically predictable). I gather that this is the reason that most western armies have a "division-level repair yard" to deal with these issues. But as the PZH-2000 is not organic to Ukraine's armed forces, they're going to have to lean on whoever donated them. I don't know if Poland uses this tracked artillery system, but I'm sure that Germany would man a depot in Poland.

So Zelensky’s an actor! What the hell does it matter. His country was invaded!!! His aids have to carry his balls around in a wheelbarrow. Like Churchill and actor Reagan, whose fearless policies destroyed the Soviet Union, Zelensky is the right man at the right time for the Ukraine. As far as corruption goes, he may be but I imagine that our government, and particularly Joe Biden, is far more corrupt than Zelensky and his government.
