Translation error? Too great a distance or too great of rate of fire?

Not an artillery guy but don’t understand how trying to shoot “too far” could cause an issue. Unless there is some sort of incremental charges than can be abused.

That's exactly it. There are different powder charges depending on the ranges you're firing (obviously with some overlap. And there's a big difference between higher charges and lower charges in terms of tube wear.

Reading between the lines; they are using experimental projectiles supplied by “someone else” with extended range capabilities not designed for those tubes that is causing pre-mature wear and tear. I don’t know what the MBTF (mean time between failure) on those tubes is based on this level of use anyway, but that would be a nice data point to know this is really even noteworthy.
