With news that Israeli intelligence has detected an “irregular presence” of nuclear-capable Russian bombers near Finland and retired general David Petraeus casually saying NATO would likely sink Vladimir Putin’s Black Sea fleet if Russia used a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine, it’s perhaps time for a few questions:
First, can we discuss a situation that could very well result in thermonuclear war — and the end of life as we know it — intelligently and rationally? Or must all questions about our Dr. Strangelove policy be met with childish name-calling (e.g., “stooge of Putin!”) designed to silence debate?

If Russia and The Fourth Reich want to nuke each other to ashes, I say let them.
Get our troops and weapons out of Europe and let those two destroy each other.
The arrogance of this question is off the charts.
Like it or not, every major power gets extremely touchy about others intruding into what it perceives as its back yard.
The Brits are that way about Belgium and Ireland.
China is that way about the South China Sea and its immediate neighborhood.
The US is that way about the whole Western Hemisphere.
Russia is that way about the “near abroad”...ie the former Soviet Union.
Its not about whether foreigners think any country “has a right” to be that way. Just understand that all the big boys always are that way. Anybody who thinks is going to be different or that one of them is going to just lay down and take it when others intrude into their backyard is a fool and is inviting a major war.
Ukraine doesn't come close to resembling a democracy or free country. There is NO national interest in Ukraine. The war is occurring because we fomented a revolution and set off a civil war in Ukraine so we turn the country into a money laundering operation for our political class and oligarchs.
Donald Trump has repeatedly said we need to negotiate and end to this war and tell the Ukrainians the must give up land to Russia. That's in everyone's best interested, including those in the areas that are largely ethnically Russian and were just annexed into Russia.
“The Brits are that way about Belgium and Ireland.”
Belgium?!
The only time in my almost five decade lifetime I’ve seen the UK lost thrir patience with the Belgians is when Stuart Hall protested their cheating in Jeux Sans Frontiers before falling about laughing.
As for Ireland, we haven’t been touchy with them beyond being mildly annoyed at them being ideological rather than pragmatic over the EU trade barriers post Brexit... But that’s not bitter enough to even merit a serious slanging match let alone a special military operation.
WWI: Woodrow Wilson, Democrat
WWII: Franklin Roosevelt, Democrat
Korean War: Harry Truman, Democrat
Vietnam: Lyndon Johnson, Democrat
I’m starting to see a pattern here.
Grenada: Ronald Reagan, Republican ;)

Instead, the pseudo-elite globalists expanded NATO to Russia’s very borders, the equivalent of Russia or China forging a military alliance with Mexico, Cuba, Canada and the Bahamas.
We would never tolerate that and it's outrageous we or anyone here think the Russians should.
The Biden regime/neocons/globalists are engaging in acts of provocation against Russia for their own gain and risking a hot war with Russia, nuclear war and WWIII in the process. It's outrageous anyone here would defend this madness.
This not an American First foreign policy. It's not Ronald Reagan's foreign policy that sought to free other parts of the world from tyranny.
We have foreign policy for the benefit of our political class and oligarchs that destabilizes other countries and results in the death of tens of thousands. We, under Biden, are the new evil empire.
Fringe globalists and neocons have wormed their way into the highest levels of US policy and planning of the US Empire. Their control is tied closely to our domestic woke-progressive Fed.gov, and fiat, printed money, and massive Fed.gov debt
Its too late to back out easily now.
They have got themselves, and us, into an existential war against the BRICS, led by Russia.
Same thought. Who are we to determine the rights of a sovereign nation.
Sure we can step in and enforce our vision on others since we essentially have the biggest stick, but it would never occur to me to put Russia on this list.
I have significantly more problems with Saudi Arabia and China than I do with Russia. Putin may want to rebuild the USSR, communism and all, but he hasn’t achieved that yet. Meanwhile, SA and China have enslaved portions of their populace, or use foreign nationals as chattel slaves. Why is there even a question of which is worse here?
“Like it or not, every major power gets extremely touchy about others intruding into what it perceives as its back yard.”
The problem is that Russia is no longer a major power, but believe themselves to be. Their economy is smaller than Australia’s and their population less than that of Bangladesh.
So Russia does get touchy about its neighborhood, but has no way of asserting any real influence anymore, which just makes them even angrier.
"We" (meaning our statist/woke DC political class) are the (neo) Marxists now. They have a woke-progressive, secular ideology as their religion. They will spread this ideology around the globe, and crush any domestic enemies to it. They are anti-Christian. They are in love with central-planning and top-down control. They will overthrow and subvert small countries around the world for strategic advantage.
“Like it or not, every major power gets extremely touchy about others intruding into what it perceives as its back yard.”
And, of all nations, Russia has some of the most serious reasons to be concerned about such encroachments. Starting in the beginning of the 18th century with an invasion by Charles XII of Sweden, Russia has been invaded a total of three times by foreign powers, the three most recent being Napoleon, WW I, and Hitler. That means the Russians have very good reasons not to want the United States colonizing Ukraine by making it a part of NATO. If its NATO application is accepted, we can expect mutual nuclear annihilation.
Among the many sins of our deep-state neocons, they are leading us into a long-term blood-letting, just like WWI - the West will expend debt and blood in an act of masochism. Europe will be gravely damaged. The USA, even if untouched, will suffer inflation, massive debt, financial crisis and political strife. Russia will not be unscathed either
Meanwhile, China, Saudi, India - will sit back and collect the spoils after the West has again destroyed itself
And yet they control large parts of the global trade in food, fertilizer, oil, and all metals. They make world-class weapons, some of which even the USA itself can't produce. They are completely energy independent. They have the largest share of global nuclear technology exports. They are a space power.
Ask Europeans this winter if Russia are "unable to assert their power"
This neocon slogan may work among DC think-tanks, but in the real world, the idea that Russia is a failing state and "easy pickings" is very counter-factual, stupid - and dangerous.
Exactly.
What was so awful about Ukraine and Belarus being buffer states between NATO and Russia that we just HAD to upset the apple cart?
